Product Description
Wilco's seventh disc, Wilco (the album), took shape quickly in January '09 after the band traveled to Auckland, New Zealand to participate in an Oxfam International benefit project. The band began cutting tracks for the new album, producing it themselves with the help of engineer Jim Scott. The sextet completed the disc at its Chicago studio and performed some of the new material in April at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival; where the Times-Picayune praised the band's 'thrilling,
nuanced set.' Wilco (the album) combines the intimacy of its previous studio disc, Sky Blue Sky (2007), with the experimentation of A Ghost
Is Born (2004) in a set that boasts strong melodies and gorgeous, often unabashedly pop arrangements. Wilco has clearly laid out the welcome mat to admirers of all aspects of its career; in fact, the disc opens with 'Wilco (the song)' originally unveiled in the group's performance on The Colbert Report last October in which Tweedy & Co. offer their fans 'a sonic shoulder
to cry on,' promising,'Wilco will love you, baby.' Talking to a Rolling Stone reporter, drummer Glenn Kotche calls it 'a great, upbeat song professing our love for our fans.' That said, Tweedy's lyrics remain frank and fascinating; Rolling Stone calls them
'sly, insightful and often heartbreaking.' As with Sky Blue Sky, most of the tracks are concise in shape; 'Bull Black Nova,' however, features a dramatically building arrangement and thrilling guitar crescendo, more duel than jam. It's followed by the gentler 'You and I,' a duet between Tweedy and Canadian singer- songwriter Feist, and 'You Never Know,' a gloriously anthemic track that is the album's first single. The disc culminates with 'Everlasting Everything' a piano-driven ballad with delicate sonic nuances that lyrically celebrates love's endurance.

Album Description
2009 album from the American Roots rockers led by singer/songwriter Jeff Tweedy. Though many fans suspected that Wilco's self-titled seventh studio album would mark a return to the wild cut-and-paste experimentalism of Yankee Foxtrot Hotel, the record is in fact more of a piece with its traditional-sounding 2007 predecessor, Sky Blue Sky. Heavily influenced by `60s and `70s pop music, songs like 'Sunny Feeling' and 'You Never Know' sound as if the band might finally be attempting to score the elusive hit single. The album is all strummy guitars, tinkling keyboards, big choruses, George Harrison-style slide guitar, and stacked harmony vocals, conjuring aural images of bands such as Love, Wings, and Badfinger. Throughout, the songwriting is tight and focused, making Wilco (The Album) one of the most instantly accessible albums in the Chicago-based group's catalog.

2 out of 5 stars I love Wilco!   October 21, 2009

Wilco is one of my top favorite bands. I have been following them since the release of AM. However, I feel really let down by their new CD. The fact is that it is really not good. I do not know how you guys can like this one. Only 2 or 3 tracks are memorable, Bull Black Nova, One Wing, and I'll Fight, the rest is bla bla bla... I really wanted to like this one however, I just hope Wilco find their way to being reborn with their next CD. If you don't believe me listen to Summerteeth or A Ghost is born, then listen to this stuff and you will agree. Sorry

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous   October 20, 2009

Each Wilco album is unique and challenging. My favorite is still ghost, but this one appeals to me in a different way. Still somewhat in country type of style, but with some flavoring of alternative undertones. I really enjoyed the music, but it left me wanting...as though they teased me, lured me... and then didn't totally appease my craving. This was almost like watching the last episode in a series... then wham... clip hanger... you're awed by the experience, want to choke the writer for not bringing the line to a conclusion....but... but... you come back for more.

4 out of 5 stars Another Home Run for Wilco   October 19, 2009
Jason S. Hutto (Dallas, TX USA)
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than Sky Blue Sky, the lads from the windy city produce yet again! Complex cord changes throughout and progressive lyrics make this record a must for any alternative rock fan. From the dark and twisted "I'll Fight" to the perky "Sonny Feeling", I found this record very relaxing, yet rockin at the same time!

Fantastic CD - not a bad track on it. My wife has practically worn it out already!

4 out of 5 stars A comortable album, taking few chances   October 2, 2009
A. Boyd (Boston MA)
Wilco (The Album) is fairly accessible for non-hardcore devotees, but eclectic nonetheless. Wilco is never about straight-ahead songs - this CD offers pleasing, melodic tunes elbow-to-elbow with more experimental alternative tracks that harken to earlier, edgier releases. A "B+" effort from one of today's most prolific songwriting and performing bands. Related bands: Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt. GENRES: Alt Country, Rock, Mellow Rock.

BUY IF YOU LIKE: Ryan Adams, Neil Young, Son Volt.
MUST HEAR TRACKS: "Country Disappeared," "You and I," "I'll Fight."
