5 out of 5 stars Impeccable.   November 21, 2009
Mr. Ian K. Willding (Adelaide, South Australia)
This music is without doubt one of the best produced albums of all time. It really is an incredible masterpiece from Loggins and Messina. It is my first album of theirs that I bought and other music of theirs falls dismally flat compared to this beautiful set of songs. I was so excited to see it listed on cd and could not wait for it to arrive when I ordered it a while back now.
Revisiting it brings back all those wonderful 70's memories and I've fallen in love with the music all over again. In fact I've just re-ordered the remastered version about twenty minutes ago and wonder how it could possibly be improved in any way. I'm really thrilled to know it's on it's way to me.
I get chills at the opening notes of the joyous Growin' knowing that the music following will envelop me into a true feeling experience and carry me away on a most exciting musical journey. The musicianship is truely impeccable and is a hallmark of Californian/west coast music from that era. Country rock never sounded this good. I could not recommend this music highly enough. The only way to know is to buy your own copy, sit quietly with headphones and be prepared to be transported into an emotional experience like no other.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite L&M Album   November 11, 2009
L. Schatzer
I had the honor of working on this album. It was the first L&M album recorded at Jimmy's ranch in Ojai, CA with the Haji remote truck and the first of their albums for which I was the technical adviser.

From the very beginning you could tell this was going to be a special project. The first vocal we recorded was "Brighter Days" which we started recording about midnight. It was an amazing evening and when I listen to this album today I am still taken with the superb audio quality we achieved recording in Jimmy's house and the incredible quality of the music we captured.

Working with Jimmy and Kenny will always be one of the highlights of my life.

5 out of 5 stars Mother Lode-Father Lode - The politically correct Metamorpho ;)   July 27, 2008
! Metamorpho ;) (Castle in Scotland)

Many people have written to your beloved Metamorpho bemoaning the fact that there is much unbalance in the world. Of course, my answer is not what they want to hear. Why? Because your favorite Seer is dreadfully honest. The mass society doesn't want to hear nor believe this. Why? Because they have bought in to the illusions of the world and within themselves.

People think that, just because I am a Seer, that I can wave a magic wand and set things straight. I admit I can't, (although I'm working on it). Now, don't look at me with those Li'l Bo Peep eyes! I am not Mr. Fix-It you know. I do need the world's co-operation now and again!

That is not to say, that I haven't been working at correcting the great disparity in society. I am starting with games. You know games I'm sure. Most people play them (psychological ones) that are no good to anyone. However, I am thinking of the inconsequential fun ones. Take, for example, Mah-Jong. In order to be politcally correct (what a horrible concept!), I have created Pah-Jong. Divorced Fathers will certainly delight in this game. It is played with truck tires and, well, the idea is to toss as many as you can into a corrupt courtroom. Don't worry, there are many out there. The one who gets the most in wins. He also gets jail time from the Judge - so it is wise not to be too good. ;)

But, within this quagmire, lies a delightful, life affirming music that everyone will enjoy. Well, almost everyone if you don't count those primordial men in frozen ice. But, that is another matter entirely.

I guarantee that, if you listen to "Mother Lode" by Loggins and Messina, your spirit will be compelled (I compell you!) to be tossed into a gliding, higher plain of existence. This album will exorcise the demons and negativity that have invaded your aura (without you knowing it) and transport your essence into smiles (if your a curmudgeon) and fly me to the moon feelings (even if you're not Sinatra). Yes. This is awfully good. Perhaps their best effort in Metamorpho's archives. And, I do not kid about my archives, I assure you.

I am sure that most of you out there know a lot of their hits (House at Pooh Corner, Your Mama Don't Dance, Danny's Song, Angry Eyes). Forget all that. The real deal is here. Formidable, eloquent, accomplished, and much more intricate and complex than you'd ever expect from this duo.

This album is like silk against the skin, butter on corn on the cob, syrup on the pancakes (or waffles, if you prefer). Everything on this album is a joy to hear. Not one bad tune. I can't say this about everything I select. So listen closely!

This is contemporary pop, so people who are strictly into classical (GHB comes to mind) may not like it or understand it. Revenge is a Metamorpho best served cold - after all. ;) But, what I like about this offering most are the changes and how they include a lot of instruments (flutes, madolin, fiddle, horns etc.) into the mix. It is interesting to note that many songs begin in a certain groove, and then change to a whole new movement. The amazement is that you think you're on one journey and then it changes to a new destination. Sort of like Metamorpho's reviews. But, if anyone asks, I will deny it all!

An example of this is the song "Be Free", and, not only is it free but gives you the freedom upon hearing it. Wonderful passages. There is also, projected here, the anticipation of what awaits us down the road. "Growin'" certainly yields itself to forward movement. The excitement of "Changes" makes one want to fly. Despite the lyrical set-backs, the message is clear. "Change will help us succeed". And, indeed, isn't that so?

The mostly acoustic "Brighter Days" is a look back. But, a beautiful look back. Lovely, smooth, and comforting despite the disappointment. A relaxing groove. Delicate in the memories. I could go on and on, but at this point, what would it prove? They are talking about many aspects of love here. But the integrity and value are always retained to a higher, more positive level. This is such a total joy. Expertly written, done with such class that it's truly is a gem. This is pop/rock for sure. But one that will not shatter your glasses like memorex or send you fleeing for aspirin. Get it! Or else my guides will report back to me! (I see you all tremble!). ;)

Now, I know you want me to stay, but I must go. Got to create more games. Instead of Old Maid, how about Old Bachelor? Or, instead of Hearts, how about Minds? The list could be endless.

Contributions accepted -- Metamorpho ;)

5 out of 5 stars Totally loaded   April 12, 2008
Ian K. Willding (Adelaide, South Australia)
This set of songs from L & M whether on lp or cd is without doubt some of the best country /rock music I have ever had the pleasure to sit down and be invovled in. From the first time I heard this music I knew I was listening to something very special, something that would stand tall against the decades since it was produced. In deed the production of this music is superb and I use it still as a measuring stick when comparing it's richness to what has come and gone since it's release. The musicianship is first class and the song writing only adds depth to it's beauty. This music makes me cry with joy when I play it and that is often. A true motherlode more valuable than gold.
