Product Description
What makes a band truly remarkable? Insightful lyrics? Memorable melodies? Blow-your mind live performances? The truth is that it takes all of those things along with a boundless enthusiasm, an infectious energy and a supreme devotion to the fans. With this rare combination, a band may ascend past "good," - and reach sublime. Drawing on the hardships and joys of their own lives and a musical history ranging from old world Celtic to modern day punk rock, the seven members of Flogging Molly do just that, and they do it with a charm and an ease that makes them one of the most revered bands performing today. Flogging Molly isn't a mere band, they're a seven member nuclear family. They are as devoted to one another as they are to the music they create. It's no wonder their extended family - the legion of loyal Flogging Molly fans - keeps growing every day.

Album Description
Flogging Molly's latest album, Float, recorded in King's native Ireland, delivers still another iteration of the band's sonic evolution. More mature yet retaining the immediacy that marks all of their work, Float may find the widest audience acceptance of any Flogging Molly album. Hard charging tunes 'Paddy's Lament' and 'You Won't Make a Fool Out of Me' give way, as listeners have come to expect, to more sober ruminations on tracks like 'Float'. The overall effect is a symphonic layering of sound that possesses a unique rhythmic flow from boisterous to bereaved and back again. Long time fans and new discoverers will be equally astounded. 11 tracks.

4 out of 5 stars "Floats" to the top   November 6, 2009
Wendy T. (Charleston SC)
I downloaded this album today and I am astonished by it's fire, passion, and energy. It's a great listen and the price is far less than this music is worth. I was looking at bands coming to play at a local venue (The Music Farm), and FM is on the calendar. I was thinking, yes, they sound familiar, let me go hear a sample. I would not call this punk, but music that melodically and lyrically surpasses most punk; yet is more turf-kicking fresh than old Irish ballads warmed over. I am still a huge fan of the Clash, and listened to Black Flag and Dead Kennedys back in the day. I like White Stripes and Radiohead (alt/indie etc.), classic blues and hard-bop and fusion jazz, so I am all over the map. Don't care too much for country, bluegrass, or weepy folk.

"Float" is original, with excellent, thoughtful lyrics. The musicians are all very good, and very tight, and can do a whole lot more than play fast. Their speed is breathtaking on some of these tracks. The lead singer's voice is wonderful, and like Tom Waits, can be melodic yet gruff at the same time. The main thing that appeals to me in a singer is the honest expression of feeling, which is one of the reasons I like blues and jazz so much. Flogging Molly's lead singer expresses rage, loneliness, lust, nostalgia, and bravado, to name a few.

I think this will be my new favorite album for a while, and I will certainly try to catch this show in December. I am now listening to it for the 3rd time already. The slower numbers just add to the depth of the album, and show the range they are capable of. They will rev you up or break your heart - maybe both at the same time.

Also downloaded the Pogues If I Should Fall from Grace with God today. Somehow I missed hearing them the first time around. Never too late to become a fan.

5 out of 5 stars They kick'd the quality up another notch!!   October 19, 2009
W. Turner (philadelphia)
I am a long time fan so that needs to be said up front.

This album is great. They are just getting better and better. The lyrical aspects of the songs are just as profound as the musical aspects. I love that this band blows me through the roof while at the same time they make me feel through the arrangement of the songs and through the lyrics.

They have all improved as musicians and in how they arranging their music on thier albums. It totally shows on this album.

***And they are just SOOO freaking tight live. That comes from their constant touring and playing live music. GO FM. Thanks for all the hard work.

These guys just kick A** and that's it.

5 out of 5 stars Great   September 22, 2009
Robert (Washington, DC)
Loved Flogging Molly since 2002. I love this album, too. True, this is less punk-ish, but that doesn't mean they're going soft, it's just more folk-ish. I don't want to call this a maturing of the bands sound or an evolution of their sound, as that would some how imply bad things about their previous albums, which are equally as great. Rather, I'd say they're exploring freely...

What I love about Flogging Molly is they don't wreck themselves by trying too hard to be Flogging Molly. I love them because they make the album they want to and don't try too hard to live up to their explanations.

Also, I love their more folk, less punk song. All things in moderation, eh?

5 out of 5 stars Different is not always bad.   April 19, 2009
T. R. Norton (Colorado, USA)
I have downloaded and listened to all but the last couple tracks so far. I have got to say that it definately is a bit different from other FM cd's, but if this is different, different is not bad. So far one of my favorite tracks is "Between a man and a woman" I felt a lot of emotion from that track with its lyrics and in the chorus that soulful fiddle that I have grown to love about them. Another A+ FM album in my book.

5 out of 5 stars Well Balanced, Better with Every Listen   November 25, 2008
Dony150
This is my first FM album and it won't me my last. I listen to this cd again and again and seem to discover a new favorite song for the album each time. The band does a great job blending catchy Irish rythms with powerful vocals in a package with mainstream appeal. The lead singer displays a good range of volume, letting you know when you should be stomping your feet or just reflecting. You can see this in the song Float, as he crescendos with the lyrics "A Ripe Old Age! That's what I am!"

The cd is a good listen. It has a variety of songs and tempos, but I definitely see that rocking is in FMs roots. If you've heard Float, be aware that that is their lighter side. Take a listen to Requiem for a Dying Song or Punch Drunk Grinning Soul to get an idea what the album is like. If you like those, this album is for you.
