| Customer Reviews: Outstanding performances June 24, 2009 Matthew A. Jordan (Madison, WI, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I followed the advice of the other 3 reviewers, and I'm glad I did! The City of Prague Philharmonic plays these works to the hilt. Their performances are slightly more spacious than the originals with Williams and the LSO, but tighter and equally full of fire. In the faster selections the rhythmic energy is astonishing, and the love themes are gorgeous. I recommend it highly!
Simply Outstanding January 18, 2009 Aman George (Falls Church, VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up a copy of this at my local used CD store (sorry Amazon) and was floored. The recording quality is simply phenomenal - if you listen on good equipment, you will be convinced that you are watching an orchestra have at John Williams's original works. This is a must for any Star Wars fan, or any audiophile or audio enthusiast who enjoyed the Star Wars music.
Captures the drama! August 6, 2008 M. Garnica (Northern Virginia) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After an extensive audio review of the available Star Wars sound tracks, I found this one to capture the emotion and drama the best.
"The Six Star Wars Films ... John Williams ... Silva (2008)" August 5, 2008 J. Lovins (Missouri-USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Silva Screen Records once again has outdone themselves with "THE SIX STAR WARS FILMS", all the splendor of this composer on 14 Tracks --- Williams creates visual moods for each film he scores...all individually wrapped-up into one neat package...just the way "film-score-buffs" like 'em...flavored with cues of action, adventure, mystery, romance, sentimental and suspense, the list could go on --- Every track moves you --- Each track comes back with a memory as the preceeding track ends --- It flows naturally and perfectly from score to score --- If you're looking for a piece of music to capture your heart and a deeper meaning of the film...you've found it --- Silva Screen's release traces several decades of Star Wars film music --- featuring "The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra" --- conducted by Mr. Paul Bateman, Mr. James Fitzpatrick and Mr. Nic Raine (as always outstanding)...performing 14 selections, close to a full hour of symphonic suites with a full orchestra sound.
John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor and pianist. In a career that spans six decades, Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in history, including those for Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones films, Jurassic Park, Hook, Schindler's List, Born on the Fourth of July, and Harry Potter --- In addition, he has composed theme music for four Olympic Games, NBC Nightly News, and numerous television series and concert pieces --- He served as the principal conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra from 1980 to 1993, and is now the orchestra's laureate conductor.
Williams is a five-time winner of the Academy Award --- With 45 Academy Award nominations, Williams is, together with composer Alfred Newman, the second most nominated individual after Walt Disney --- He was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2000, and was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004.(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
