| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential recording Given the pace of Michael Jackson's post-Thriller release schedule, it's striking that Off the Wall appeared between two albums with his brothers, Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980), on which the twentysomething phenomenon was also fully engaged. Aided by richly detailed but not overdone production, Off the Wall redefined how much Michael might do. Tracks like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Rock with You," the title cut (all Top 10 singles), and "Burn this Disco Out" not only consolidated his dance-floor power, but showed just how soulful and varied his vocals could get on uptempo material. Artistic role models like James Brown and Jackie Wilson echo through the mixes, but these were Jackson's leaps forward. The addition of pure pop confection--Paul McCartney's "Girlfriend," Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It"--further fleshed out the star's young-adult persona and helped make Off the Wall among the most fondly remembered of all his solo work. This special edition features two magic home demos and entertaining, insightful interviews of producer Quincy Jones and "Rock with You" composer Rod Temperton. --Rickey Wright

My favorite MJ album November 15, 2009 Dark Phnix (New York City, NY) We all know the hits, know all the songs on Thriller, Bad and Dangerous. I really liked Invincible but Off The Wall was the one cd I heard little about (plus I admit I wasn't even born yet when he released Off The Wall). So I ordered it from Amazon and imagine my surprise when Off The Wall turned out to be my favorite cd out of all the Michael Jackson albums I owned.
Off The Wall is great and does what a great cd should, gets you on the floor to dance and sing along. It's fun, it makes you feel good and every song is worth listening to. It's one of the rare cds where I play it through instead of skipping ahead to the songs I like.
Once I insert the cd into my stereo or laptop, it's guaranteed that I will play the cd at least twice. I'm definitely happy with my purchase and many will enjoy the bonus tracks where you can hear the demo of Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and Working Day and Night, plus interviews with Quincy Jones.
Michael Jackson Off the Wall November 15, 2009 Fiddlin Sue (Ohio) Great music, but then what music of Michael's is not awesome..It still makes me feel sad to think that such a talent is gone, but we will enjoy his music forever more!! This
CD is not typical Michael, but I really like it.
carsoncity28227 November 2, 2009 Carol Carson (NY) I bought this CD as a part of my collection of my MJ musical collection. No bad words -- after all -- it's Michael and what could be bad.
Michael Jackson Off the Wall CD October 29, 2009 Sheilah A. Clark (Chicagoland, Illinois) Entertainment at it's finest. Buy this for yourself and for your friends and you will always be glad you made the move.
Producer Quincy Helped Michael Become a Superstar October 26, 2009 jazzest (Chiba City, Japan) The primal reason for success of Michael Jackson's first solo album, Off the Wall, may be Quincy Jones's precisely calculated light soul tracks; his delicate arrangement for horns and strings adds a sophisticated spice to the late 70s soul/disco sound. Michael's musicianship, particularly his skill in treatment for vocals and percussions with strong rhythmic sense, may be another factor for the success. On his own "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Workin' Day And Night," we hear massively layered vocals and percussions weave complicated rhythm patterns with Latin flavors. Meanwhile, Michael's falsetto must have sounded bizarre to most audience back in the time; the tracks' perfection might have made the bizarreness irrelevant and even turned it to people's favorite. Michael's unique vocal would become another major element for his music's popularity, thanks to Quincy's establishment and Michael's own musical talent.
