Amazon.com For such a boldly titled and apparently driven attempt to reinstate Michael Jackson at the center of the pop world, Invincible is a listless thing. Split between scratchy funk workouts and midtempo ballads that might have appeared as Bad B-sides, the album plays on and on while never seriously promoting dancing or romancing. Its handful of weird moments--the resurrection-by-tape of Biggie Smalls on the bridge of the title track, for instance--are hardly large-scale bizarre like the first disc of HIStory. The title track turns out to be hardly the rampant egofest you'd imagine; instead, its subject is a female whom Jackson cheers on. Likewise, the most ear-catching moments of the "comeback" single "You Rock My World" come with Chris Tucker's jivey introduction. Despite a debt to "Payback"-era James Brown, "Rock" floats away like steam midway through. It's almost a relief when the old self-regard turns up: on the growling "Privacy," Jackson rants about muckrakers "stalking" him in search of "the stories you need to bury me," all this long after foundering divas and troubled boy-group members have replaced him on tabloid covers. The man may occasionally break away from the mirror but seems unsure where else to find inspiration. --Rickey Wright

Not one of Michael's best albums July 29, 2010 Jason Weber I really wanted to like this, I knew it wouldn't come near Thriller or Bad or even Off the Wall, not even Dangerous got close to those three albums, but I thought it would at least contain original and funky beats and show Michael for the true musical genius he is. Instead, most of the songs are filler material, consisting of mindless ballads and generic beats. This album is easily forgettable aside from a few good songs. The best song in this album to me was You Rock my World since it had a nice beat to it and Michael sounds best in that. Cry is also a pretty good song, and one of the better ballads. Then you have the alright songs that are somewhat fun to listen to like Unbreakable or Whatever Happens. But you also get pure garbage on some songs that should never have been included. These are by far some of the worst songs ever released on a Michael Jackson CD which include Threatened, 2000 watts and privacy. In fact, the entire second half of this CD is almost forgettable aside from a song or two. So my final word is Michael is the greatest pop singer of all time and revolutionized the music industry with his Thriller and Bad albums, and continued to make good albums, until this one. I mean really, of six albums, having one rotten egg isn't that bad when most pop music stars these days usually have a bad album every other album they produce. All singers have their slumps, and Michael just didn't have Quincy to help him produce another gem. This album does show potential though, and has a few good songs that save this album from being a complete failure. It just isn't that memorable and many of the songs sound generic and have a feeling like Michael's already been there. Privacy, we already heard enough of Michael singing about being alone. The Lost Children, Michael already sang about helping the impoverished children across the world. You are My Life, Michael already sang many songs about a woman making his life complete. These songs just feel recycled and although they do show potential, don't end up living up to the greatness of the pop icon singing them. Its a shame Michael had to die and couldn't have time to produce one more album with Quincy. I think the tour would have helped him regain some of his popularity, and then he would be able to produce another hit album like Thriller.
Didn't get the credit it deserved July 10, 2010 Diana (Illinois) This was a great album that didn't get the attention or credit it deserved because of the poor single choices. You Rock My World sounds dated and boring and was not a good choice for a lead single (never should've been a single period). Unbreakable, Heartbreaker, Invincible, 2000 Watts and Heaven Can Wait are the standouts on this album and the songs that SHOULD have been singles. The other singles that came from this album were the dreary Cry and boring Butterflies. With boring songs like that used to promote the album, it's no wonder it sank fast. Nevertheless, it's a good album overall.
Under-rated wonder June 27, 2010 S. Taylor (Maryland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't understand why this did not sell better when it came out. It's FABULOUS! I love Michael's new stuff and it shows where he was in his life at the time. Ever changing to keep up with the times.
Michael at his best May 17, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So, honestly let me make 1 thing clear. If you EVER called Michael a pedophile in the past DO NOT BUY ANY OF HIS CDS. Hypocrites...
So anyway, we've all seen what MJ can do. He made Thriller, Bad, Dangerous (My all-time favorite CD), HIStory, Blood On The Dance Floor, and his last CD, Invincible. It was a GREAT way for him to go out. This CD was very poorly promoted due to a conspiracy against Michael. But no one can deny how great this CD was. It had one of the best playlists to a CD that I have ever heard. If this cd was promoted better, it would of been up there with one of his bests by most critics. Its a shame this album never got the respect it deserves. But Michael is still the best. R.I.P.
Incredible! April 13, 2010 Bluemoon (Maryland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had totally slept on this album when it came out probably because, well I didn't really even know about it. The promotion for this album was terrible how else would it's release escape the notice of a young female college student? I remember "Butterflies" and "You Rock My World" being OCCASIONALLY played on the radio but not enough to establish that Michael had an album out. Anyway fast forward to almost 10 years later and here I am just now discovering this fabulous piece of work! No lie I have been playing this like crazy for the last few months. This totally blows Thriller away IMO and better showcases his vocal range as well as musical stylings. Its a shame that there weren't more videos for the songs on here and shame on Sony for not promoting this album the way they should have. This is a must have CD!
