Amazon.com essential recording What's left to be said about Andrew Lloyd Webber's adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera a decade after its premiere? That it's maddeningly ubiquitous? A stitch-up of various themes shoplifted from the Italian operatic repertoire? A critic-proof crowd pleaser that's probably being staged somewhere in the world as you read this? A megahit that will likely outlive Titanic in the pop-culture pantheon, Phantom has largely redefined--for better or worse--the manner in which modern musicals are conceived, staged, and marketed. Its influence has reached far beyond the traditional confines of London and Broadway. A favorite example: an abridged version that was the centerpiece of Los Angeles's longest-running transvestite revue, replete with 14-inch chandeliers and a man-playing-a-woman-playing-a-man in the title role. --Jerry McCulley

Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom will live forever!!! February 17, 2010 Michele E. Service (Virginia) The Phantom of the Opera (Original 1986 London Cast) cd set is the absolute BEST version ever!! The included booklet w/the spoken words as well as the lyrics really helped to better understand the story. I owned this set years ago, but it had been damaged and subsequently misplaced. I was thrilled to see that it was available on Amazon.com! I had NO PROBLEM with my order and it arrived in perfect condition. It is wonderful to have it again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
poor delivery time. product is superb!! February 6, 2010 Robert C. Forde (Australia) I'm very disappointed in delivery time. as a small CD disk airfreighjt ex USA surely would have arrived at least a week after acceptance of order (not 7 weeks)The freight charges would have more than covered the cost.Had I known it would have taken so long I would have purchased elsewhere. My family has reservations for future purchases.
The product is excellent and am happy with that.

'PHANTASTIC!' January 22, 2010 Cristina R. Andres 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ever since I was 12, I have been in love with musicals operas and broadway productions. It is no secret that singing as an operatic soprano has made me love it all the more. Phantom of the opera ranks as my top musical in any production followed my Les Miz and Miss Saigon. When I was 14 I was introduced to the movie version and thought that it was fantastic. However after seeing the live production in Vancouver at 16 then again in New York last year, I couldn't help but feel there was some essence missing in the movie. So to help me recapture the moments in live theatre I bought this phantom of the opera original 1986 london cast CD before my 19th birthday and fell in love with it instantly!!
The vocals of Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford are stunningly beautiful and up to now I have not found anyone to top their emotion and thier power in the performance. I would recomend this to any phantom fan young and old!!
Good price, but defective cd December 21, 2009 Katie Slattery (Florida) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think the music from Phantom is beautiful, and the cd is of high quality. However, I bought a slightly used version from vendor, and my cd had a scratch on it. I was disappointed for this, and not really pleased with my purchase.
Thrilled yet disappointed. December 21, 2009 M. C. (Colorado) I think the Phantom music itself is incredible. However, the condition of the CD packaging was a huge disappointment. The outside cover was scraped and damaged. The CD case cracked and broke when I tried to open it. I contacted Amazon and was promised a new case, yet never got it. I would use caution before ordering any music CD's again. MC
