| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential recording What's left to be said about Andrew Lloyd Webber's adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera a decade after its premiere? That it's maddeningly ubiquitous? A stitch-up of various themes shoplifted from the Italian operatic repertoire? A critic-proof crowd pleaser that's probably being staged somewhere in the world as you read this? A megahit that will likely outlive Titanic in the pop-culture pantheon, Phantom has largely redefined--for better or worse--the manner in which modern musicals are conceived, staged, and marketed. Its influence has reached far beyond the traditional confines of London and Broadway. A favorite example: an abridged version that was the centerpiece of Los Angeles's longest-running transvestite revue, replete with 14-inch chandeliers and a man-playing-a-woman-playing-a-man in the title role. --Jerry McCulley

Love the Musical! November 4, 2009 G. Guesby (Atlanta, GA United States) I was in love with the music before I saw the Broadway show. THank you so much for letting me have the music of my dreams!
The real POTA deal September 11, 2009 Dan Clarke (Reno, NV) The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most popular performances of all times, attended by millions worldwide, but there is nothing like the singing in the original performance. The artistry of Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman is only eclipsed by the chemistry between them, making this album unique.
The album itself is accompanied by a detailed narration of the music and the storyline of the play, which is a real plus, especially for those not familiar with it.
I have played the CD's repeatedly and cannot express how much enjoyment they have brought me.
Fantastic Music, but slight volume issue August 21, 2009 yerosmyhero (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love the Phantom of the Opera. I first saw the movie, and a few years later saw it in London. I believe that the Original London Cast far surpasses the movie cast in terms of vocals. I already had the Highlights of the Phantom of the Opera, but I wanted the whole thing. However, I discovered while playing it in my car's cd player, that it has no volume equilizer. One moment, the volume is turned up all the way, the next I'm bursting my ear drums and it has to be turned back down again. I thought this problem might be resolved when I put it on my ipod, but it is not. That is my only complaint with this soundtrack. The quality of the music is phenomenal. I would still recomend it. (For the record, the highlights did not have this issue)
Phantom at it's best. June 27, 2009 Jeffrey Ronchetti (Hibbing, MN USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There is nothing like the original score and music to this wonderful tale of mystery, danger and unrequited love.
