Amazon.com A Perry Como Christmas is the audio equivalent of a Norman Rockwell painting. Like Nat "King" Cole and Bing Crosby, whom Como fondly emulated, Como defined for many Americans what the holidays sounded like through the '50s and '60s. With the advent of widespread television, Como practically became the man for wholesome holiday pleasure and entertainment. Greatest Christmas Songs will reestablish that fact for many who've put on a Como record every season. This collection brings together many of his classic seasonal recordings and some tracks even collectors will be delighted to find, including "Some Children See Him," recorded in 1954 but left off The Perry Como Christmas Album. At 21 cuts, complete with engaging liner notes, this is an essential collection of Como Christmas greats that the immortal baritone presents for the end of the century and the beginning of another. Call it a pop-cultural milestone that will never go out of style. --Martin Keller

Not THE (beloved 1968) Perry Como Christmas Album, but a good start November 10, 2009 W. Craig This CD contains eight of the eleven songs from the 1968 recording sessions that so long ago adorned our phonographs and hearts with Perry's warm traditional touch. I'm speaking of the LP with the photo of Perry Como's face surrounded by a wreath on the cover, currently unavailable on CD (as far as I know). The remaining three songs can be found on two other CD's currently available at Amazon; "A Perry Como Christmas" contains "Christmas Eve" and "Carol Medley" (both must-haves); And "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Forever", containing "Toyland". Not discounting the value of the other classic selections on these three CD's, all of the tracks on the '68 LP came from the same sessions, lending to its compilation a certain warmth of continuity that anthology oriented collections simply cannot convey. May I suggest recreating the '68 album as closely as possible by programming the songs in the order they originally appeared (with one addition): Side 1: Christmas Eve, Do You Hear What I Hear, Christ Is Born, The Little Drummer Boy, There Is No Christmas Like A Home Christmas, O Holy Night. Side 2: Carol Medley, Silver Bells, Some Children See Him (omitted from the original release), Toyland, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Ave Maria. Note: "The Little Drummer Boy" is a different mix, but I don't think you'll be disappointed, since Perry can be heard on one more verse! Merry Christmas!
Christmas in September September 20, 2009 Lorraine Strickland (Westampton, NJ, USA) I never expected to be playing Christmas music in September, but when I received Perry Como's "Greatest Christmas Songs" CD I couldn't resist. It is packed with some of Perry's most beautiful Christmas songs and, surprisingly, there were a few I didn't know. This CD is highly recommended. I was almost in the mood to wrap presents and start decorating. But---no fear! I'll still be doing those kinds of things on December 24th, as my family well knows. This was the very first item I've ever purchased from Amazon.com and I must say that I was totally satisfied with the service.

An excellent addition to anyone's Christmas music collection January 5, 2009 Michael A. Martin I am not of the generation who would remember seeing Perry Como during his heyday in the late 50's and 60's, but anyone who likes to listen to people who can actually sing will not be disappointed. I prefer the older Christmas carols and songs (before the 1970's) and Como was a legend even in his own time for his vocal talents and his magnificent performances. I prefer listiening to the likes of Crosby, Ames, Como, Williams, Goulet, etc, before just about anyone of the newer singers, many of which do have good voices, but evidently would rather sing in any language other than English, presumably to appease the politically overcorrect thought police. If you enjoy listening to old fashioned Christmas music performed by a master, you will enjoy this CD.
