Mark Knopfler Rocks! February 6, 2009 lynniepooh (eastside of the sierras) What can be said that hasn't been said already other than Mark Knopfler is the best - singer, songwriter, guitarist talent to ever come along. He is awesome! Satisfaction is guaranteed with any CD purchased with his name and input.
Hidden Genius September 19, 2008 D. Folwick (Portland, OR) Most of you know him from Dire Straits! But this man is incredibly talented with the pen. This whole CD is on my iPod and in my rotation at home. His eclectic musical tastes and skill of capturing the "feeling" of the moment on film are keen. He's right up there with Randy Newman. I saw him live on July 1st and his closing song was off of this album!
totally regret having money wasted on this when there is so much good music around June 27, 2008 John Phillips (Nelson, New Zealand) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
got given this today, and whilst being a fan of mark knofler and dire straits, i can't stand this. full of drippy, sniveling, rubbish. none of the soulful bluesy or even fun-filled stuff that i know and love. my girl got it as a present for me, and i hate it that much that i couldn't even be civil enough to lie about it.
i thoroughly recommend that you audition this before purchasing it...
and it is sorely lacking the maestro on his guitar, reminding us that, "man that guy can play..."
Awesome August 8, 2007 Lou (Long Island) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
While I have all of these songs from their respective CD's the compilation is terrific. I would recommend it for any Knopfler fan.
Knopfler Goes Gaelic and Classical March 7, 2006 Smallchief 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
This CD consists of musical selections from the soundtracks of "Cal, Last Exit to Brooklyn, The Princess Bride," and "Local Hero" by Mark Knopfler finger-picking rock guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, best known as the front man for Dire Straits.
"Cal" and "Local Hero" feature Celtic influenced music; "Princess Bride" is lilting and classical; "Last Exit" features melancholy violins. The best known tune on the CD is the "Local Hero" theme, "Going Home," which Knopfler used to play in his live shows. The outstanding feature of the CD is Knopler's guitar playing which as always is complex and tuneful.
If the CD lacks anything it is majesty -- but none of these films was majestic, so Knopfler can be forgiven for not writing an ear-thumping "Lord of the Rings"-type theme. My wife calls a couple of the pieces drippy, but most are very good, a few beautiful, and all good, easy listening.
