Mostly George, but Rosemary too June 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD just released contains recordings done from 1952 (featuring Rosemary Clooney) to 1955. The first four sides were originally issued under Armand Hug's name, but somehow George is credited now. These feature Jack Delaney (trombone), Monk Hazel (drums), Lester Bouchon (tenor), George and Armand. The next four cuts are from one of Girard's LPs, which I own, again featuring Delaney, and together with the first four are the best sides (1952-1953). The remaining cuts are from Girard's band of 1955, featuring Bob Havens on trombone. These sides tend to show Girard doing fancy trumpet triplets and techniques which he used up until his death, but I prefer his style from the Basin Street Six and the early 50s. Truly, he was one of the finest from New Orleans, who died prematurely from cancer in his late 20s.
