Just gets better and better June 18, 2008 When I first saw the animated movie The Litthe Mermaid I was hooked!! It has been my favourite ever since, and hearing all these new and wonderful songs the musical edition has brought along with it just makes it even more wonderful!! I wish I could just hop on a plane and go to Broadway to see the musical in its full!! But this cd takes me pretty close!! So I can only recomed it to all of you out there who loves Disney and who loves musicals!!
Painful!! June 15, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Painful to listen to. With the single exception of Sierra Boggess as Ariel, the rest of the cast are awful and as Ursula, Sherie Renee Scott should win an award for the worst performance on Broadway. She sounds like a talentless high schooler in a bad production. Horrible!! None of it can hold a candle to the original cartoon. Just another step in the corporate takeover of Broadway by Disney. And soon we'll have Shrek, The Musical! God help Broadway!
Big Improvement From Tarzan June 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
While not quite the level of brilliance seen in "The Lion King" or "Mary Poppins", Disney's latest effort, "The Little Mermaid" aims to restore a bit of the magic lost in "Tarzan".
Sierra Boggess makes a terrific Ariel & might have received a Tony nomination for her efforts in a less competitive year. Norm Lewis, Titus Burgess, and the amazing Sherrie Renee Scott round out the leads - though I'm not sure all were used to their potential.
Alan Menken's score includes both songs from the movie as well as new additions. The music is principally geared towards the younger set, but several songs are standouts:
Part Of Your World Under The Sea Poor Unfortunate Souls If Only (Quartet)
Perfect experience June 12, 2008 I saw the show in May. I decided to see the show first then decide whether the CD is worth it. And I was the first to rush to the couter to buy the CD after the show. I personally think the music is simply perfect. Sierra Boggess demonstrate the most beautiful soprano voice I have ever heard. I am glad I bought the CD because when I saw the show somehow her voice is a little low when singing "Part of Your World", Sherie Rene Scott was the primary reason when I decided to see the show in the first place and her songs blew me away. Her voice is powerful and penetrating. Other casts did an amazing job too. And all the new songs added to the show are very good. I especially love "If Only". This song is very a very moving quartet song. Some kind of music that brings you to tears. So I think this CD is definitely worth it, for all that love The Little Mermaid.
I am Part of Her World. June 9, 2008 I absolutely love this soundtrack. I saw the musical in New York in early April and fell in love. I was a little skeptical because I am such a huge fan of the Disney movies, but the play blew me out of the water! :) I had to have the soundtrack, so I bought it ASAP. The singers are incredibly talented. The soundtrack may be a little hard to follow if you have not seen the Broadway show, because the plot is changed a little to accomidate for the stage. I would definitely recommend it for any Disney fan.
