I recently re-discovered this gem after several years of having it gather dust on my shelf, and boy am I glad I did. It is a real masterpiece from an under-rated band.Poi weaves together guitars, drums, violins, flutes, cellos, pianos and more to create an enchanting and driving sound -- one that is never as dischordant as you would expect. Each of the 11 songs is strong on its own, but together they play out like a supremely well-crafted symphony. "Complicated" forces you to get to your feet and dance, while "Pomegranate" is a more mellow exploration of sounds. The lyrics to "God's Gallipoli" are worth memorizing for their power. This is a diverse and challenging album that may not be immediately accessable to all listeners, but I urge you to stick with it. You will be richly rewarded.
