1 out of 5 stars Five Star soundtrack gets a zero star treatment release   April 21, 2009
M. Gaudet (A Galaxy Far Far Away)

Due to either digital noise reduction to remove analogue tape hiss or because of the loudness wars this soundtrack has all its highs in the audio stream clipped right off. The lows and middle are still there but the high frequency stuff is gone. The arista records release and the original cd release and lp album are unaffected the only ones who are ruined are the 1997 and 2004 releases and the limited edition boxset of all three by sony.

The mastering in 1997 has to be at fault. I'm not saying its the mastering technicians fault its possible he was ordered by Lucasfilms to remove the hiss from the master tapes and then we get what we have ruined releases missing all clarity. You end up with a lot of missing material but the only way now to have an unruined score isto get the arista anthology box.

You don't even need a high end setup to detect the difference though it certainly will make things clearer. IF you put both releases through a program with a sound graph you will be able to physically see what is missing.

4 out of 5 stars A classic   December 11, 2008

Perhaps my least favorite of the original soundtracks, it's still a classic. If you are a fan of the original Star Wars movies, you can't miss owning this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack   October 6, 2008

I bought this for a Star Wars birthday party for my 7-year-old son and our whole family really enjoys listening to this. If you're a Star Wars fan, I'd recommend adding this to your music collection.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT BUY!!!!   June 11, 2008

The music is excellent, the case has a 3-D cover, and the regular cover behind the 3-D one folds out into a great poster, which has pictures on the back of it. This soundtrack has two disks and contains the the song "Jedi Rock" from Jabba's palace and the celebration song at the end of the movie. "Luke and Leia's theme is beautiful, while the action music makes you feel like you are right there in the movie. I think that every Star Wars fan should own this item.

5 out of 5 stars Music that is enjoyable enough to last a lifetime   April 19, 2008

I only have the original Star Wars double gatefold LP from the late 1970s (Universal Records) plus the 3 VHS special edition box of the movies. With access to the films via Netflix and Rhapsody, I have not been motivated to buy them yet again. I listened to all 3 original Star Wars sound tracks via Rhapsody (IV, V, & VI) over the course of a single day. I greatly love the original LPs, but I do agree with those who have commented that the second and third film scores are even better. The overall cohesion of the music with the recurring themes is very impressive. If I had only listened piecemeal I may have missed this cohesion factor. Track 6 on VI disc 1 is perhaps my favorite. By just listening to the music instead of hearing it along with the video, I realized how great the film scores are and they can really stand on their own without the videos. The production qualities on these CDs are second to none. The Orchestra sounds great and the levels are very powerful making the music easy to hear.

I recently heard the marche from Prokofiev's The Love of 3 Oranges and it sounds similar to the Parade of the Ewoks (track 1, Disc 2 Star Wars VI). If you have the actual CDs or if you are much more the Star Wars buff than I am, could you please check to see if mention is made about this track and if its inspiration is listed as Prokofiev's marche? I listened to Arthur Fiedler's (Boston Pops) Living Stereo CD (Prokofiev, Chopin, & Liszt) via Rhapsody so if you have access you can cue up both tracks.

These CDs are very enjoyable to listen to and I capped my day with the sound TREK from the original Star Trek The Motion Picture.
