Product Description PEUGEOT: France, since 1810. Peugeot mills are renowned by chefs and gourmet cooks the word over for the consistent grind results they produce, their incredible resilience and proven reliability. Compromise is not a word that fits into the Peugeot vocabulary. For each spice, there is one – and only one – Peugeot grinding mechanism: peppercorns; coarse dry salt; chilies; herbs and spices; wet salts; and nutmeg. Add the coffee mechanism, which started it all, and there are seven unique Peugeot mechanisms. Each is designed to derive the most flavor and greatest aroma from its complementary spice. Aesthetically pleasing, Peugeot mills deliver the height of quality, durability, reliability and innovation; making these mills the ones to which all others are compared. Chateauneuf: a Grand Cru of a mill if ever there was one. Solid and substantial, this mill is made from select French beech wood and accented with brushed stainless steel. It features Peugeot's exclusive u'Select grind adjustment system, which allows the grind to be adjusted with a simple turn of your wrist! Turn the ring at the bottom of the mill in one direction to make the grind finer; turn in the other direction to make it coarser. Once the grind size is set, it will stay in place until the user changes it. This mill is equipped with Peugeot’s legendary pepper grinding mechanism. Made of case-hardened steel, it has received additional treatment against wear and corrosion. Its double-row of helix-shaped claws grab and crack each peppercorn, before drawing it down to the teeth for the perfect grind. Mill is 12-1/4-inches tall with a black matte finish.

Best pepper grinder we've found October 20, 2009 Herbert Hoover (USA) Apparently because the grind mechanism isn't attached with the top screw-on knob, the grinder gives the same size grains of pepper for a setting every time we use it. With other grinders we've used, we would get powder mixed with chunks, different every time.
On this one, chunks or powder settings work equally well. Lovely cherry finish matches our cherry dining table & the shape is neutral enough to fit in many decors. The grinder feels nice in the hands and the top turns easily; the brushed chrome metal and black markings at the bottom have a quality look.
We will probably give one of these for a holiday present.
terrible October 20, 2009 avid hobby cook I bought this pepper mill based on great reviews on this site. What a mistake! I have only had it for 6 months and I am on today looking for a replacement. It looks great, but I have to bang and shake it to get much pepper out at all on any setting. Maybe I got a lemon but I cook a lot and I can't imagine a worse pepper mill. I wouldn't give it away.
Perfection May 20, 2009 Derek Ryker (Sacramento, California United States) It's amazing how much time and energy one can spend on something so seemingly inconsequential as finding a proper pepper grinder while the vast majority of those on the planet are simply hoping to put a bowl of rice on their table each day. At any rate (and deftly shoving all guilt aside), I shopped around and tested out just about every mill available and this one is perfection. The six grinding options are distinctly different allowing you to choose the grind that works best for whatever your culinary situation demands. I'll stop short of saying that this pepper mill has changed my life (just short) and will simply opine that it's the best pepper mill I've ever encountered. Worth every penny. Great wedding gift, too.
Perfect One for Me March 15, 2009 Selective Shopper (Austin, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this pepper mill several years ago and have enjoyed using it from the first day I got it. It's beautiful and never gives me any trouble whatsoever. It's a great size and looks good on my counter and table. I don't even regret the cost, even though it is a little pricey.
Mills great.. Sort of August 4, 2008 bobbler (Atlanta GA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The peugeot mills are great (at least the larger ones with the select ring on the bottom.. called u-select.. seem to be).. I tried the senlis (clear and smaller peugeot), and the knob somehow binded so it was very difficult to mill the pepper (possibly I had a lemon)..
As for this mill (Chateauneuf), it works perfectly.. The mill can mill finer than the 3 select of the william bounds (I think the finer grind, with fresh dill on am omelet tastes better.. but maybe its the tellicherry pepper).. Easy to mill.. And the mill seems to accommodate the slightly larger tellicherry peppercorns (although as with all mills it seems, will probably not work for pink or green.. but will work with the typical peppercorn mix of these).. I believe some of the Chateauneuf mills have a slippery gloss finish that may make it more difficult to mill (the one I bought was a matte finish)..
AMAZON SHIPPING:
I ordered the 4 for 3 discount (got the fourth one free).. Amazon shipped all in one box. lose with no protective anything around the individual mills.. There was that balloon plastic in the box, so at least they were not banging around loose.. Not AZ fault, but when I opened the box (after it had rained and the carrier didnt put it in a plastic bag as they usually do), the box was filled with bugs.. AZ quickly replaces the 4 mills at no charge.. Shipped the same way (except two of the mills were in a plastic bag this time).. Of the second shipment one of the mills was damaged (looked like due to poor packaging it banged into the other mills).. AZ says they are new, so I dont know why the mills do not come in a little box for each mill.
