As recounted by almost every writer on the subject of obesity in the United States, the quantity of food consumed per person in the U.S. is much greater than in other developed countries, despite the fact that some of those countries (e.g. France) have a cuisine that would appear at first glance to be a one-way ticket to fat heaven.
Enter the food scale. A simple device that will allow you to determine how many servings of a particular food you are eating. If one serving of your favorite breakfast cereal is 50 grams, you place the bowl on the scale, turn it on, and pour the product into the bowl until you see 50 grams on the LCD. It is that simple. No guesswork required.
If you use this product to measure your servings AND limit the number of servings that you eat, you will probably lose weight. I have lost 27 pounds since December of 2009, thanks in large part to this device combined with a computer software program called Diet Power.
Now, concerning THIS scale. Very simple design, small, looks nice on the countertop and doesn't take up a lot of space. It is easy to use, and has been reliable thus far. My last food scale (made by Salter) cost me three times as much as this one, and died after two months of ordinary use, so I'm very happy that my EatSmart scale is still working. The only drawback of this scale is that the LCD display can be difficult to read if you are dumping food onto a large plate. You may want to weigh your food on a clear plastic or glass plate, then transfer it onto your actual plate in order to avoid this problem.

This is a good scale. I bought it for weight loss purposes and I did not want to spend a ton of money for a scale, but it needed to be something that would do the basics - tare, be able to be stored compactly, digital for ease of reading... it does all of these things. The weight of the scale is such that you might think it is a piece of junk... but it seems to be working fine for me at the moment. And if it breaks - well, it wasn't expensive so I will have learned my lesson. The biggest plus for me is that it doesn't have one of those annoying bowls on top. You can use whatever container you want for your food - just tare it and then add the food. Much better than having to find space for a clunky food scale. I would say it is worth the price and worth a shot if you are a skeptical buyer, like me.

I ordered this scale and expected to receive it on March 6th and was pleasantly surprised when I got it on March 3rd. I was very pleased when I opened my box and used my scale, I have only had it for about 2 weeks now and it is exactly what I wanted and I could not be happier. It is easy to use and the size and look of it is perfect to leave on my counter. I have not had any problems with my scale but I know if I did the people at EatSmart would be more than helpful! Their customer service leaves nothing to be desired. I would definitely recommend buying this scale.

I got this scale a couple weeks ago, and I love it! I got it for measuring cake decorating products; but we've also bought bulk items & separated them into more "usable" amounts also. We love it! It doesn't take up a lot of space, and so far...it's working great!
