Product Description This unique mat is composed of fiberglass and is coated on both sides with non-stick silicone, allowing for the dough to be rolled out effortlessly. The World Cuisine Silicone Skid-resistant Counter Pastry Mat is ideal for kneading, beating and rolling dough or working with sugar and chocolate. When rolling out dough on the top surface of the mat there is no need to sprinkle the mat with flour. The reverse side is skid resistant and secures itself to any working surface. The World Cuisine Silicone Skid-resistant Counter Pastry Mat can withstand extreme temperature ranges, however, it is not designed to be a baking mat and should never be folded or cut in order to fit in a conventional oven. Due to its skid-resistant properties, the pastry mats primary purpose is to provide a large surface for rolling out dough.

Just a concern November 20, 2009 Michele S. Roda (Nevada) 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am concerned that it is made of fiberglass with a thin coating of silicone.
Fiberglass is considered a health hazzard and once inside the body, it can't be removed. It says not to cut it (good idea since the fiberglass is in the middle) however, cutting up dough, a slip of the knife....
I don't know, it just seems crazy to use fiberglass for food preparation.
Just my .02 cents
BTW I had to give it a star just to leave a comment. I don't have this item and have no intention of getting it.

Works well. I roll it up with Velcro strap for storage. It is large so you need space for it when using.
Counter Improver October 14, 2009 K. Schultz (USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Rolling out tricky pastry like pie crust is not so bad on a standard counter top, but this mat improves the experience enough to be well worth the price. If you own this threaded type of silicon mat for baking, which I also highly recommend, you know exactly what to expect. This mat is just a huge version. Just for fun, I tried to stick it in the oven and found it was too big, though it might be used for that purpose in a commercial size oven. However, its purpose is to create a non-stick work surface that is easy to clean up, and it does that with style. The size is perfect for most projects, including pretty big pastry, and will probably be almost oversized for candy making. If you don't need something this big or don't have room for it, the standard silicone cooking mat from this brand or other (Exopat, Silpat, etc.) should be a better fit.
As others mentioned, the tacky nature of the mat keeps it from skidding, while the nonstick nature allows the use of less flour. The only real caveat is that it can't be used with a knife, though a pastry knife has not harmed mine. Otherwise, this is the perfect tool for common kitchen tasks and I love using it.
Finally, a mat that stays put! October 5, 2009 J. K. Freedman (Knoxville, TN) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this mat! It is the perfect size for my countertop AND it doesn't move around when I roll things out. Great size for rolling out cookies, pie crusts, pasta and bread dough. Easy to wash and store. Don't hesitate to purchase this baking essential.
Very Nice Mat October 2, 2009 John Steiner (Glendale, AZ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have used this mat a few times and am very happy with it. It stayed in place on the countertop while, along with flour, did a nice job of letting the dough be worked and yet not stick to it. It cleaned up easily and was an excellent purchase.
