Better than Alton Brown's November 14, 2009 Boilermate (Upstate NY) As another reviewer pointed out, this is NOT the same salt cellar as AB uses. I have both, and this one is better.
Unlike AB's this one has a silicone gasket on the inside of the lid, which effectively seals out moisture, and more importantly, smells in.
I purchased this one to use as a sugar bowl, hoping the seal would keep the ants out. My previous sugar bowls did not have air-tight lids and had to be retired during the summer, lest we find black six-legged critters happily munching on the contents. For the past two summer "ant seasons" this bowl has kept the critters at bay.
While AB's is fine for salt, this would be better than his for that, too.
Choosing between AB's and this one? I recommend this one. Well worth the extra $1.06!
very nice September 9, 2009 Elizabeth A. Hostutler (Columbia, MD) I really like this salt box. The lid has a plastic seal, which is nice to keep humidity out. The spoon is surely extraneous, though.
Just like Alton Brown... May 13, 2009 Anna Corwin (Indianapolis, IN) If you're a fan of Alton Brown at all, this is a must-have. I think our cooking even tastes better now that we have a cool container for our kosher salt!
Works great April 8, 2009 A. Barkenhagen (Anaheim, CA) I was looking for something I could pinch salt out of, that had a lid. This is perfect because I can pick it up and open the lid with just one hand is great. It's well made and looks good on the counter. I never use the spoon.
I'll admit, the fact that Alton Brown uses these did help me decide to pick one up.
This is NOT the one Alton Brown uses April 2, 2009 contractor man (New England USA) 7 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is NOT the one Alton Brown uses on his Foodtv Good Eats show. I bought the real one he uses from another seller on here. Do a search for Alton Brown Salt Cellar and you will see the REAL one. Special box and packaging for the real one.
