Amazon.com Review Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the liquid within. Seeking the expertise of master distillers in Scotland, Riedel came up with its definitive single malt whiskey glass: a deep bowl on a short, pedestal stem. With its flared lip and curved profile, one can even imagine the bowl resembling a Scottish thistle. Perfect for any fine whiskey, the set of two glasses makes a superb wedding gift or adds to an existing collection for the serious wine and spirits lover. Each single malt whiskey glass stands 4-1/2 inches tall and holds 7 ounces at full capacity. Comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum stems and cocktail glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Riedel introduced the popular Vinum line in 1986 and this particular glass in 1991. While all Vinum glassware is dishwasher-safe, Riedel recommends washing the crystal by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. --Ann Bieri
Product Description Claus Riedel changed the world of wine with his revolutionary concept of functional stemware. He was the first designer to recognize that the bouquet, taste, balance and finish of wines are affected by the shape of the glass from which they are drunk. Introduced in 1986, Vinum was the first machine-made series of glasses in history to be based exclusively on the characteristics of quality with a reasonable price. These glasses have proved to consumers and restaurateurs that the pleasure of consuming wine starts with the glass. Extensive research for the perfect malt whiskey glass resulted in a glass that has an elongated thistle shape on a truncated stem. The design incorporates a small, slightly outturned lip which directs the spirit onto the tip of the tongue, where sweetness is perceived, and serves to emphasize the elegant creaminess of top quality single malt whisky. Recommended for: Single Malt Whisky, Malt Whisky, Whisky. The Vinum collection is made of over 24% lead crystal. 4 1/2 in. - 7 oz.

Wonderful Enhancement October 30, 2009 Arizona (Tucson, AZ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On a recent stay at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, I took part in a single malt scotch tasting sponsored by their Food and Beverage Department. The beverage director used glasses of this shape and size, and talked about how the shape of the glass can enhance the single malt experience. I was initially skeptical, but as soon as the tasting began I was convinced, and started looking to purchase a few for myself as soon as I returned home. I only rarely drink single malt scotch (too expensive) but I've found my enjoyment of those rare moments increased by 100% as a result of these glasses. They are pricey, but a wonderful way to help you enjoy your favorite single malt scotch, and I recommend them highly. Plus Amazon's prices were the best I could find when I purchased them.

Class up those single malts January 12, 2009 Ronald Olexsak (Santa Fe, NM USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nothing wrong with a whiskey glass for sipping, but no better way to class up the experience than a pair of these glasses. After trying them out for a few weeks I even sent a set to my father.
Easy to handle and clean, these are great sipping glasses for (Irish) whiskey. The short stem is a handy hold point without feeling unbalanced - the wide mouth on this makes for a nice drinking experience.
