Product Description Winner of the European iF Design Award, the Canteen double wall glasses can be use the whole year round. You can use them for your cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter. They are made of a very strong but yet light weight glass (borosilicate glass). They can safely go in the dishwasher and microwave. No coaster needed. Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Some people may perceive the glass to be "thin" as they hold it. It is important to understand the difference between borosilicate and soda lime glass. Borosilicate glass doesn't need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is dishwasher safe and will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 100 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it. Simply treat it as you would any glass product and it will stand up to every day use. Dishwasher & microwave safe.Bodum insulated, double wall glass i
Amazon.com Review Drawing on modern technology and innovative design, Bodum's Canteen collection puts a new twist on everyday drinkware. The walls of each vessel are hand blown with two layers of clear glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid is suspended inside. Cut in slightly tapered, clean lines, they have an almost futuristic appeal that emphasizes the relationship of form and function. This set of two double wall cooler/beer glasses serves anything from chilled lagers to hot cider. Crafted of borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 7-ounce, scratch-resistant set goes safely into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Canteen with the Pavina and Assam lines to stock the bar or dining table with a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

Good from far but far from GOOD November 24, 2009 Martin Hamilton (VA USA) Cool idea (pun intended) BUT the glass is very thin. DON'T drop an ice cube in one it will break the glass!!!
Right size beer glass November 9, 2009 BuckDollar (Duh!) Very good quality and holds about 13 ounces. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is it is not shaped as a beer glass and there is some type of silicon plug centered on the bottom (about the size of a dime) that sticks to things like napkins, coasters and so on. I think it keeps the inner chamber air tight.
Great for beer, it's a piece if you put ice in it. October 27, 2009 Kenneth H. Charette (Chicago) I put ice in my glass and it shattered the inner wall. I put the ice in by hand so it's not like the ice had far to fall. It went right through the bottom of the glass. A definite, never buy again.
5 star glasses if you're careful with them October 14, 2009 Adam Draginda (Santa Cruz, CA) Yes it's true that they're fragile, HOWEVER (and it's a big however) if you are careful with them, then you have nothing to worry about. It's not like they just spontaneously break. I bought two of these a month ago and have since bought 4 more since I like them so much! If you want a very rugged glass that you can treat like crap, then get plastic tumblers. If you want a fancy glass that you'll take care of, then get these!
PROS:
-Hot or cold: I use these for everything from cofee, tea, to water, beer, and even cocktails!
-Look amazing
-This may sound weird, but I love the lip of the cup. It's very "comfortable" to drink from.
CONS:
-Ok they're fragile. You can just tell when you hold them. This isn't because they're cheap, or poorly made - it's just the design. See below for care tips.
-Expensive at ~11$/glass they're a bit expensive. However if you get them as part of a 4-3 promotion then they become a better deal
Care Tips:
-Dishwasher is perfectly fine! Just make sure that nothing is touching them nor do you have anything loose flying around your dishwasher. Make sure that you put the glass on the "pegs". If they were to fall over onto each other, they would surely break (as would most glasses though).
-Careful with ice! Just be careful when you put the ice in...place the cubes in delicately, don't just throw them in. I routinely use these glasses with ice.
-Use a wooden instrument to stir. Someone said that they broke the glass when stirring with a metal object. I suggest using wood or plastic. If you're going to use a metal spoon, just do so with care.
I love these glasses so much that I felt compelled to tell people the "truth" about the glasses. Again, if you don't mind just being a little careful with the glasses, then you'll have a product that you'll love for a long time. If you want something super-durable, buy plastic tumblers.
Love them, but they're fragile October 1, 2009 Bodum Glass Enjoyer (Maryland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought 8 of these glasses. 4 broke. Be very GENTLE with these. Don't carelessly drop ice in the glass, or violently stir a spoon in the glass. I've been very careful with the last 4 glasses I still have, and they've lasted me for 4 years now. As long as you're aware of how fragile they are, you can enjoy them for years of use. They really do a fantastic job with keeping cold liquids cold (ice doesn't melt for hours), and hot liquids hot. Absolutely no condensation forms on the glass, so no coaster is ever needed! I highly recommend these glasses, but just be careful.
