Product Description Sipping espresso has been elevated to an elegant occasion with these Assam highball glasses by Bodum. Winner of the European iF Design Award, the Assam double wall glasses can be use the whole year round. You can use them for your cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter. They are made of a very strong but yet light weight glass (borosilicate glass). They can safely go in the dishwasher and microwave. No coaster needed.Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Some people may perceive the glass to be "thin" as they hold it. It is important to understand the difference between borosilicate and soda lime glass. Borosilicate glass doesn't need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is dishwasher safe and will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 100 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it. Simply treat it as you would any glass product and
Amazon.com Review Combining modern materials and clever styling, Bodum's Assam drinkware brings a truly innovative look to the table. The walls of each vessel are actually two layers of clear glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid is suspended within. Highlighting the dramatic effect, the Assam shape features slightly concave sides that flare out as they reach the smooth, round rim. This set of two double wall cooler/beer glasses serves frosty ales or hot toddies with equal ease. Crafted from borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 13-ounce, scratch-resistant set goes safely into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Assam with the Pavina and Canteen lines for a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

Too fragile November 8, 2009 Barbara (Rome, Italy) I read the review about how easily these glasses crack, but I bought anyway. Sure enough, after first use, one is cracked.
Very effective, but very fragile October 18, 2009 Stretch (Houston, TX) My wife loves the ability of these glasses to insulate a drink, but they are made of a very thin glass. Even a gentle bump will cause it to shatter into a million shards of thin, difficult-to-see glass.
Fantastic Glasses for Beer and Coffee alike October 17, 2009 S. Flynn (MA) I purchased one set about six months ago and used them only for drinking beer due to the reviews that these glasses break so easily. I recently purchased another 3 sets for a total of 8 glasses. I was surprised that when the new sets arrived the glass was much thicker then the original set I purchased. The new sets feel much more robust. This could be because the glasses are hand blown so no two are identical. Now that I have 8 I have started to use these everyday and have yet to break one - including drinking my morning coffee. The outside of the cup does not heat up at all. I also always wash them in the dishwasher (I most often break dishes when I wash by hand). Overall the glasses perform great. Hot or cold, the temperature of the liquid is maintained much longer then a normal glass. Also, the outside of the glass does not sweat at all so I often put it right on my wood side table without a coaster. Lastly the glasses look fantastic and are always worth a conversation when I first hand my friends a cold beer that appears to be hovering in space.
Choose a different brand/style glass July 12, 2009 Polyxenes (Fort Worth, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I own and use a Bodum coffee press and I expected the same glass quality in these double-walled glasses. Without reading the reviews (my mistake), I ordered 6 each of two sizes. In fact, these lovely glasses are so fragile that I've broken several of them and now rarely use them. I recommend you pass these by, surely there is a better double-wall glass available.
Keeps beer colder, longer June 23, 2009 A. Gordon (New Haven, CT United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read all the reviews that warned against the fragility of these glasses before buying them, but went ahead with my purchase anyhow. So far, I still have both glasses, and use them regularly. I'm really careful to not just slam ice cubes into them, which isn't usually a problem, since I generally use them for beer (no ice, duh!).
These glasses keep my beer noticeably cooler than regular glasses or a bottle. I'm not sure for how long, since I try not to let beer sit around for too long once poured.
If you like cold beer, these glasses are a good buy.
