Product Description The stunning simplicity of this dinnerware will lend elegance to any tabletop. Ribbed accents and a scroll border trim combine for tactile interest.
Amazon.com Review Mikasa combines pleasing texture with a solid white finish to create an enduring classic, Italian Countryside dinnerware. Made of hard-wearing ironstone for everyday use, the dinnerware also exudes enough panache to serve brunch or dinner for a more formal gathering. Fine ribbing accentuates the plate borders, as well as the sides of the sugar bowl, creamer, and teacup, while a scrolling, bas-relief garland decoratively bands rims and edges. Glossy and handsome, Italian Countryside makes a fine gift, especially in this all-inclusive 45-piece set. The eight place settings in the set include one of each of the following: an 11-1/8-inch dinner plate, 8-5/8-inch salad plate, rimmed 9-3/8-inch soup plate, 8-ounce teacup, and 6-1/2-inch saucer. Matching the place settings are four accessories: a 12-inch round platter, perfect for cakes, hors d'oeuvres, a roast chicken, and more; a round serving bowl for vegetables or potatoes; a sugar bowl with a handsome domed lid and oval filial; and a creamer with a gracefully pronounced spout. The sides of the sugar and creamer are fluted as well as ribbed. Conveniently safe for the microwave, dishwasher, freezer, and oven warming at low temperatures, Italian Countryside is exceptionally worry-free. As with most fine dinnerware, sudden temperature changes should be avoided to prevent breakage. --Ann Bieri What's in the Box 8 place settings, 5 serving accessories. Each place setting consists of: 11-1/8-inch dinner plate; 8-5/8-inch salad plate; rimmed 9-3/8-inch soup plate; 8-ounce teacup; and 6-1/2-inch saucer. Serving accessories consist of: 12-inch round platter; round vegetable serving bowl; sugar bowl and lid; creamer. 45 pieces total.

Pretty but not practical October 24, 2009 Ruth I. Melling (Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased these dishes about 3 years ago. I had my eye on them a for very long time and finally decided to make the splurge. Unfortunately, they have not held up well. Many of the plates have chipped under ordinary daily use. I had hoped these would last a lot longer but I'm already looking for a new set of dishes that are more resistant to chipping. Another down side that I didn't notice until I started using them was the huge size of the plates and bowls. An average serving in the bowl or on the plate looks dwarfed.
chips easily May 5, 2009 laura s. (orange co., ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using this dinnerware for over a year and am finding more and more chipped pieces. The dishes are pretty and easy to work with, but I will have to replace them sooner than I had planned. If you are looking for hardworking, long lasting dinnerware, then skip these and choose something else.
perfect April 20, 2009 P. Huggins Just received two of these 8 place setting sets. Both arrived in perfect condition. Love the price and the additional serving pieces.
Finally, no more burned fingers March 5, 2009 Laughing Gnome 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like other reviewers, we have had dishes (2 sets purchased in the '80s, one set in the late '90s) that were marked "microwave safe" but still burned fingers when remvoved from the oven. This is apparently not an uncommon problem. Apparently, just because something won't totally melt down in a microwave is not necessarily a good enough reason to put it in the microwave. In doing internet research, I found a list of dishes from a variety of manufacturers that were supposed to be microwave safe...really. The Mikasa Italian Countryside pattern (which I had been looking at for several years) was one of the patterns listed. I purchased one 5-piece setting to try it out in the microwave and was pleased. Now, if you put your hand exactly under where the food was cooked, it does get a bit hot, but that's what any serving piece would do if you put hot food in it--transfer of heat. But, if you pull the plate out of the microwave by the rim, which is what you should do anyway or the mug out by the handle, you should be OK--no oven mitt required. On our previous dishes the rims always got hot, even though there was no food on them. I can't tell you how many plates my husband has dropped over the years. You should note that the dishes may not be as white as they look on your screen. It's really more of a winter white, which is a light creamy white. The price can't be beat for quality stoneware. While I got mine at a low "gold box" price, even at $200, it's only $25 per place setting and that's not including the five-piece serving set. When you add in the free shipping (which arrived very quickly), and not having to go to the store and lug the dishes home it's an even more impressive deal.
7 years of use later: still beautiful February 17, 2009 Nathan Beauchamp (Oak Park, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife and i received a set of Italian Countryside Dinnerware for our wedding back in 2000. Nearly eight years later, they are still as nice as the day we received them. We use them daily, and have found the quality to be very high. The only issue we've had is that the handle of one of the coffee mugs has a crack in it that has caused the handle to start to come loose from the mug. Only one of the mugs developed this problem, so I'd say it is an irregularity not a design issue.
I can verify that this is a quality set of dinnerware. If you like the design, you can't go wrong with this set. We also own all of the mixing bowls, large coffee cups and saucers, and two serving trays. All are equally nice and have stood the test of time.
