Product Description
Amazon.com Review Peugeot's contemporary line of Vendome mills are all styled with the same clear, acrylic body and wood top in a choice of finish, but are individually engineered with different grinding mechanisms to suit different purposes. This chili mill, specifically designed for the grinding of dried red chili peppers, employs a pre-chopping system before grinding in order to obtain a fine, even grind. To vary the coarseness of the grind, the round ball nut on top of the mill may be loosened a bit or tightened, and the entire top removes for ease of filling the chamber. A special coating on the inside helps keep the peppers fresh and prevents corrosion in the steel grinding mechanism. A unique gift for the lover of hot, spicy foods, the Vendome chili mill comes in a 5-1/2-inch height. Other Vendome mills grind salt, black pepper, herbs, and damp salt. Care for a mill is easy: clean the exterior and inner chamber with a damp cloth; never immerse in water; avoid putting salt in the pepper mill, or grinding green or pink peppercorns by themselves (mixed with black is fine); and avoid damp types of salt (usually pink or gray) in the regular salt mill. Made in France, Peugeot mills are covered by a two-year replacement policy, while the grinding mechanism is covered by a lifetime warranty. Peugeot has been a leading manufacturer of pepper mills since the 1840s, and is a brand preferred by many restaurants and chefs. --Ann Bieri

| Customer Reviews: Great way to add a bit of heat to your meal March 1, 2009 Platinotype (The West) I bought this mill through Amazon about two years ago and am surprised to see the negative reviews. My wife doesn't like any heat at all and I crave it, so this sits on our table and I use it several times a day. It comes loaded with Thai bird chiles. I switch between Thai peppers and smoked Mexican Pequins. It has the standard Peugeot mill fitted for larger spices like a chile and set to push the chiles into the mill. I've had no trouble with the plastic. I wonder if the other reviewers have dropped theirs or tightened it down too much? I couldn't find anything cheaper when I bought this one, but will certainly look at the other reviewers recommendations.
Acrylic top cracks easily February 13, 2009 David Sternlight (Los Angeles, CA USA) The acrylic top on my Peugeot Chili mill wouldn't take the stress of fine grinding and soon cracked at the top on both sides just below the turning handle.
After a little time, Peugeot's distributor (who was out of stock) replaced this at no charge. I have had no trouble with the replacement.
For the smallest dried chili peppers a $6 IKEA ceramic mill works just fine, as does the $12 Swedish Tulip ceramic spice mill.
Several competing mills have the grinder at the top (some even with covers) and thus don't leave a trail of ground chili peppers behind when one puts them down on the table after grinding, unlike the Peugeot.
Good spice but the mill was defective November 8, 2008 Matthieu Hausig (Brooklyn, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this mill for a few years and unfortunately had to throw it out today. The chili gives a nice kick and kept very well but the design is such that the acrylic inside got cracked and chipped by the steel rod and sent sharp acrylic chips into my food. Not fun. Would've been four stars but the design flaw takes off two stars. Hopefully it has been redesigned by now.
