| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Many of our authorities thought this 9" tall, contemporary black pepper mill was top notch- it met all our criteria: a comfortable grip, a grind that is easily adjustable, and a nut at the base that is independent of the loading ring in the mill's body--so there's no need to reset the grind after refilling. It holds over a cup of peppercorns that are easily added through the large hole on the side of the mill, and works very fast & efficiently, according to Cook's Illustrated, who includes it in their "Best" category. The grinding mechanism has nickel-plated heads that will maintain their cutting edges and won't rust. The Magnum Plus has a lifetime guarantee. Not battery-operated.

best out there November 7, 2009 Willie Vanbrackle if you work in the industry and don't have this peppermill your missing out. it might not be ascetically pleasing but it more then makes up for it in quality.
Excellent product in design and quality October 18, 2009 J. B Kraft (Palestine, TX United States) This product has several qualities which should endear it to any cook.
(1) It has a well designed shape and heft, fitting comfortably in the hand and being easy to grip while you are stirring and not actually looking at it. It's also stable sitting on the counter -- you are not likely to bump it and knock it over.
(2) It's easy to fill with peppercorns.
(3) It is very easy to actually do the grinding -- I think this would be suitable for people who don't have a lot of hand or arm strength,
(4) It's very easy to clean. As I saw on a program dealing with home hygiene this past year, real cooks who use their spices regularly like salt shakers and pepper mills -- even with the best intent tend to get food traces on the tools, and we don't clean them enough. The high quality plastic finish is very smooth, and I think superior to wood or "busier" types of shapes that have crevices for food (and germs to get trapped in.
(5) It delivers a lot of pepper with the adjustable grind, and it's fast. You don't have to keep grinding and grinding to get just a little pepper done.
All in all, highly recommended, and it is attractive enough to bring to the table for things like prime rib.
99.999% Perfect September 30, 2009 Cymry (California, USA) To think that I had been suffering the inadequacies of my previous, very expensive... $80++ as I recall... pepper mill for over 10 years, thinking it was the best I could do...
Then I saw this pepper mill reviewed on America's Test Kitchen... so I decided to test it.
Amazing. It holds a ton of peppercorns, but more importantly it grinds them perfectly. This is a precision instrument.
Just be a little careful on your first use of it. It puts out a LOT of pepper with just a few twists. My first use opened my eyes.... WOW! ... this is really more than just good. You have to try it to believe it.
And for a very reasonable price. I recommend it without hesitation.
Very good but with design flaws June 21, 2009 L. F. Perkins (Quincy, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For many years I've used a Perfex mill for black pepper and part of a set for white pepper. The Perfex is excellent but I was attracted to this pepper mill by its good looks and positive reviews.
It grinds up a pile of pepper in a hurry because its large (27 mm diameter) mechanism allows more peppercorns to be ground at once. Its coarse to medium grind is excellent overall as compared to the Perfex, but a fine grind could not be obtained with the unit I purchased. Some fine tuning of the machining or design of the mechanism is needed by its Italian creators.
The problem with the fill hole ring opening accidently can be fixed by redisigning the ring and mill body so that there is a detent to help keep the ring in the closed position more firmly.
Finally, the whole thing slips in wet or oily hands too easily. It would be good to have a fluted surface for the cap for a better grip.
The Unicorn Magnum is used for black pepper most of the time, but I prefer the Perfex for white because of its superior fine grind.
Simply put: The Best May 11, 2009 Dashvee (Miami, Fl) Great capacity, excellent grind control, smooth & consistent resistance. If you watch cooking shows, you will undoubtedly see this jewel being used by chefs with gadget-lust e.g. Alton Brown, America's Test Kitchen. A solid investment.
