Product Description Imagine owning or giving a prestigious Riedel design for less than $60. This Cabernet Decanter proves that it's possible without compromising on quality or style. 24% lead crystal.
Amazon.com Review Made in Austria by the world's most-renowned wineglass maker (Riedel Crystal, founded in 1756), this decanter allows sediment to settle, clarifying any older red wine. Even with a young, sediment-free wine, the decanter makes a beautiful serving vessel by displaying the wine's color. It's machine blown of brilliant 24 percent lead crystal and conforms to Riedel's exacting standards: colorless, transparent, and thin walled. It holds 64 ounces, ample for two 750-milliliter bottles of wine, and measures 11 inches high. Its graceful, outwardly curved neck provides a secure grip when pouring. Riedel crystal is used by fine restaurants all over the world and thus must stand up to frequent trips through a dishwasher. But because lead crystal has a soft, coarse surface to convey intense aromas, Riedel recommends that the decanter be hand washed. --Fred Brack

Good but not great... January 13, 2010 Kathy Engo (san jose, ca) Cleaning is quite burdensome for weekly usage. It's a nice looking decanter, thin & elegant, prone to breakage; for it to retain its understated elegance, spotless is a must. Hence upkeep is such a chore. Now & then I would break my Vinum glasses while hand-cleaning or drying them, this decanter has presented even a greater challenge.
Unlike wine glasses, thinness serves both aestheticism AND functionality; it is purely aesthetic and nothing else when it comes to decanter. Therefore I personally thought the Schott Zwiesel Classico Decanter, also German made, is a better option for regular usage because on top of being relatively though not quite as thin, it's durable due to its titanium content.
Now, let's say to add more "oom" to your wine experience, you don't mind painstakingly cleaning it afterwards, then pricier Riedel decanters, the "O" model for one among others, are a lot more visually striking.
In short, balancing between aestheticism and utility, this is a good but not great decanter considering other alternatives. 3.5 stars.
Lovely decanter - perfect for regular bottle despite "magnum" classificn by Riedel December 12, 2009 Straight Up Sam This is the decanter to get if you're looking to get a large classically shaped decanter in this line for a regular bottle of wine. Yes, this will hold a magnum but you don't want to pour all the magnum in it as there won't be enough surface area for the wine to aerate. I bought this to decant regular 750ml bottles of wine after reading some of the other reviews of this and it's shorter sibling decanter (the regular sized Cabernet Decanter). I'm glad I did as I wasn't disappointed at all. I was afraid this might end up being "huge", but it isn't. And, the regular Cabernet decanter is too small, as other reviewers of that have noted. If you're familiar with Riedel's Extreme line, this is almost an "extreme" decanter. One other thing to note: it's made of really thin, fine looking glass which looks beautiful (it's even thinner than the regular Vinum line). If you have the Riedel Vinum XL Pinot glasses, this decanter's glass thickness is exactly like those glasses. Love it. I even have the smallest version in this line which I use for when I'm just drinking a couple of glasses by myself.
Perfect December 23, 2008 Hudson This Riedel wine decanter is very pretty and elegant. This was a gift for my wine-collecting husband and he loved it!
Tasty Decanter August 23, 2008 Bordeaux Nut (cape cod , MA , US) Not sure this should be called a magnum decanter but it is just the right size for a 750 . It is a nice shape and not an enormous footprint on the shelf . A little pricey but a very nice decanter
Great decanter for a great price. April 17, 2007 J.J. (Denver, CO USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this decanter for my dad for his birthday. You automatically expect quality since this is Riedel, but until you see this in person you just can't describe how elegant it is. The description says that it will hold 2 bottles of wine, but my suggestion is to buy it to hold one bottle, which gives the wine plenty of room to breathe. Definitely a great gift, looks much more expensive than it actually is, quite a good buy.
