Product Description Cut thick slices of apple for pies, or veggies for stir fries. Slice potatoes thinly for homemade chips, or cabbage for cole slaw. Shred carrots for salad, or julienne, or cube, or dice. With a helpful set of instructions and three cutters, this machine yields professional looking, uniform results, at great speed and without much work on your part.
Amazon.com Review An inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steel mandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, and safely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits. It also shreds cabbage and neatly dices potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. For safety, a holder firmly grips food with stainless-steel prongs so fingers are protected from the German surgical-steel blades, and the three inserts accompanying the device lock in position. The inserts act as a guide for slicing against the V-frame's knife that reverses to create slices either 1/4-inch or 1/16-inch thick and two julienne inserts for creating 1/8-inch or 3/8-inch strips. For storage, the V-frame, all three inserts, and the safety holder fit into a caddy that can stand upright on the counter, lie flat in a drawer, or hang on the wall. Made of rugged plastic, the device measures 15 inches long and 6 inches wide when assembled for storage. --Fred Brack

Results not quite as good as expected November 22, 2009 Brandeline (United States) After reading all the positive reviews here, I purchased one of these hoping to reduce the amount of time I was spending chopping and slicing things for meals. However it wasn't quite as useful to me as I had hoped it might be.
It's an all right slicer, but I had trouble getting even slices out of it. It tends to tear out the back edge of whatever I'm slicing. It's not a huge deal, but the slices were not very 'pretty'. I also felt the safety food holder didn't hold very much at a time. I ended up cutting a cucumber in 6 pieces and having to reload the holder several times to slice it all. All in all, it wasn't any faster than a knife for me and had less attractive results.
On the up side, cleanup is fairly easy. I just sprayed mine off with the faucet sprayer. The safety storage box is also fairly easy to use, and it's nice they include it since the parts ARE so sharp. I'm probably just going to get a salad shooter instead of this item though.
Works as advertised but BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!! November 16, 2009 James R. Tatol (San Rafael, CA. United States) Yes this item slices like a hot knife through soft butter but will do the same with your finger.
I was in the ER for 3 hours last night as the Doc. reattached the tip of my index finger. I admit I thought I could do a couple of test slices of a potato but, even sliced long way the slicer got my finger. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT A SINGLE SLICE WITHOUT THE HOLDER.... Also the directions are confusing and it will take you 10 minutes to figure out how to use the V-Slicer although I'm certain once you get the hang of it you'll be quicker.
Please be careful even with the holder, as the former demo fellow said, he even lost a finger tip after years of demos because his hand was wet and he slipped.
One more thing the ER Doc. said I wouldn't believe the number of patients he had with the same injury from the same device..........
Vee slicer November 7, 2009 Peter R. Lewy (Chicago USA) This is a great item for slicing.I use it every day. Easy to use, easy cleanup, works on everything. No need for the expensive "Mandoline". I've given several as gifts with enthusiastic responses.
Don't waste your money! November 1, 2009 punt10c (minnesota) Was purchased to replace a Benriner(Japanese). Huge mistake. Cutter blades are so thin that they flex when slicing more dense vegetables. Edges of the plastic cover are cracked in the corners even though never used. Plastic anti-skid pads on the bottom peeled off for no apparent reason. Device had been used about 6x. Have been pleased with German cutlery in the past but this is poorest product I've wasted money on in many years!
The Best! October 13, 2009 Linda B (NC, USA) I've had this mandoline for the last 20 years and am just getting ready to replace it (and only because I've lost a couple of the pieces). The blade has stayed sharp. Even with constant use, it's just beginning to dull. Time for a new one! Thought I'd check out other options but I keep coming back to this one. You can pay more but I don't think you will necessarily get a better product.
