    Amazon.com Review
For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill Lightner

    5 out of 5 stars Perfect!   November 9, 2009
    A. Waldrop (Gilbert, AZ United States)
I am so happy with this zester! I used it for the first time as I was baking last night and the zesting was almost effortless compared to struggling with an old hard cheese grater. I'm very very happy! (and so are my coworkers, who are currently eating the lemon bars.)

5 out of 5 stars I'll never buy grated Parmesan again   November 7, 2009

1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I bought this grater/zester for two reasons. Firstly, I forgot where I put my other grater and feared I'd accidentally gifted it to someone after a dinner party. Secondly, I absolutely needed to drop some finely grated Parmesan onto a plate of spaghetti with a particularly tasty meat sauce. It seems I'd found myself in an unannounced and unspoken meat sauce competition. This little gizmo helped me raise the bar. I'm still waiting to see who out does me and how.

Yes, it works for other stuff like lemon/orange/whatever zest too. It cleans up fairly easily. It's a good kitchen tool over all.

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect.   November 1, 2009

Everything you've heard about this microplane is true. It's razor-sharp and effortlessly glides through a brick of cheese. It zests citrus, grates nutmeg, and shaves chocolate into delicate mounds of powder-fine cocoa-y goodness. It's shiny and lovely and actually stays that way, due to high-quality stainless steel. Unfortunately, I'm taking away a star because every time I use it, I get wads and wads of cheese stuck under the curved back edges (you can see what I mean in the 3rd picture, where the model is awkwardly grating cheese with the plane held upside-down. I actually tried that, and it's absurd). Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's a lot of cheese, maybe 1/2 oz, each time! Imagine what I'd waste in a month. So I have to dig the cheese out and it gets smooshed because it's already so finely grated, and when I'm through I end up with something like cheesy Play-Do. And that's not as appealing to me as it might be to say, a 3-year-old.
If I were working for the good people at Microplane, I'd made the plane FLAT. Goodbye, wasted cheese and hello, five stars! Toss in a little plastic clamshell protective case and call it a day. And now I'm off for a nice 4-margarita company lunch. Kevin, hold my calls.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   October 30, 2009

I never thought I'd care about a grater but I love this one! I bought it so that I could hold it & grate parmesan cheese over pasta. I was afraid that would be too difficult to do but it works great. It's very easy to hold. The teeth are very sharp and the cheese grates into beautiful little curls. I highly recommend this grater.

It's easy to clean and comes with an acrylic protective cover.

We also bought it for zesting but haven't gotten around to that, yet.

Microplane also makes a box grater that is supposed to be really good but it's pricey. Still, I plan to buy one soon.

5 out of 5 stars 10 years and Going strong   October 20, 2009

Imagine it is early on Christmas Eve morning and I'm making the Lemon cookies everyone seems to love and expect. The coffee hasn't bathed my brain cells with stimulation or caffeine and the rind of lemon looks a bit daunting. The zester I'm considering using is most likely better used in making a Martini than the finer rind bits I need for the icing. I dig through the drawer and retrieve a zester or more a cheese grater and began running the lemon over the teeth as if just skating the surface. 20 minutes later all I had maybe a teaspoon of rind. The time was slipping by and I needed to do something so I ended doing the peeler and mincing routine. The cookies came out nicely and everyone was happy but my hands were tired.
I saw some one on television nearly 9 months later using a micro plane to grate Parmesan cheese. I stood in front of the television staring. The micro plane zipping through nutmeg and then on to some hard cheeses.
The microplab cost me around 30.00 ten years. Around 5 years ago I noticed that my two girlfriends did not have a zester and when I went to their house to cook I seemed to need one. So I came to Amazon and bought two of them and now neither of them can do with out their microplane. As some have noted here my grater is not as sharp as it once was so I will need to purchase a new one but for now it is still going because it is that great of a tool.
