| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, offers thousands of limited edition and one-of-a-kind gifts, jewelry, and home decor treasures handmade by master artists and artisans throughout the world. Giuliana Valz-Gen designs this beautiful filigree locket to treasure a loved one's lock of hair. In olden days, filigree lockets included a cushion inside where a few drops of perfume could be added. The necklace is crafted by hand with threads of fine silver, creating concentric filigree patterns within the silver circumference. .999 and .950 rating silver Artisan Info: Giuliana Valz-Gen was born in Lima on November 9, 1958. She recalls that as a child, she loved creating her own jewelry to wear at parties, or to give as gifts to her friends. By the age of 14, Guiliana was already wearing her own creations. When Giuliana began attending university, she also signed up for courses in jewelry making, where she learned the essentials of the craft. For her this was a hobby that she kept refining and perfecting. She was still taking courses when her husband died. At that point, Guiliana quit her studies to seek a steady job to support her young son. "That has been the greatest challenge of my life," she confides. With her background in business administration, Giuliana decided to set up her own workshop where she could develop her jewelry design. Through her work, Giuliana strives to rescue ancestral techniques in gold and silver, reproducing colonial designs and fine filigree.
