UPDATE-Micro cooking- Warm memories - in minutes - sub-zero comfort in a bowl! February 25, 2010 Myke (Roanoke, Virginia) Recapture the 'great nutty taste and texture' of long cooking oats by using 1 1/2 qt DEEP microwave bowl and WATER - not milk
Cook on HIGH 3 minutes - stir then let stand 2 - dab of 'homemade crock pot apple butter'/ or light sprinkle of Cinnamon sugar/ or any favorite fruit topping and U have set Urself on a path for a hearty start to or end of the day 'bounce of nutrition' - Adding Fruit and dab of Cool Whip makes a tasty snack on a cold winter's night.
Pckg suggestion is HI-3-stir-Hi 2-3 more-let stand 1/ this is where the 'boiling over - no matter how DEEP bowl is - happens.
Good long shelf life-expiration date to Nov. 2011
McCANN'S Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal, Quick & Easy, 16-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)
This will 'bump up taste' and upgrade texture of plain white bread in Breadmaker 100% - as well as 'hearty meal' during the upcoming predicted wind-chill here in VA to a minus 15 -Will try both microwave and crock-pot and add opions then - The box clearly says DEEP bowl for microwaving to avoid boiling over.
Ordered Both McCann's Irish Quick Cooking Oatmeal six-packs [boxes] and B&M Bread tins [6pk] were shrink-wrapped allowing for even more protection. In fact bread had dbl shrink-wrap intact - as well as contents have long exp. dates. Oatmeal, Nov. 2011 and Bread July 2012. Not that either will last that long in this household.
B&M Brown Bread With Raisins, 16-Ounce Cans (Pack of 6)
The Best Oatmeal Period! February 23, 2010 Bob Tee (New Mexico USA) Hear is how we prepare it: For each single serving, bring one cup of whole milk to a boil on a stovetop in a stainless steel, multiclad, or allclad pot. Add ¼ cup of McCain's Quick & Easy Oats. (Make sure it is the Quick & Easy and not the regular which takes too long to prepare.) Stir well. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for fifteen minutes; stirring after the first five and ten minutes. Remove from heat and allow to stand one minute before serving.
We then pour a little half and half over it in a bowl and then sprinkle on a little sugar. Hey; live a little! It is like heaven in your mouth! We do not eat it every day so the six, sixteen-ounce boxes that come in a single order last us about one year.
Mccann's Quick & Easy steel cut Irish Oatmeal December 19, 2009 Anita Berman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is easy to prepare. Taste is nutty and full bodied and very satisfying. The only type and brand I purchase. For a person on a tight schedule, the 5 minutes to cook is great and breakfast is far more filling and healthful and certainly tasty than the pre-cooked ones and the overly processed cold breakfast cereals.
McCann's Irish Oatmeal December 15, 2009 God lover (Virginia) Love this oatmeal & can't buy it locally. Full of fiber....altogether different from usual oatmeal.
Love the subscription service, too! Makes it so easy to re-order.
What Happened to the Great Price? December 6, 2009 Mirabeau B. Lamar (Texas, Of Course) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This oatmeal is fantastic tasting! Quick and easy to make. It also HAD a great price (last month) at less than $16 for six boxes with free shipping. Three weeks ago I would have given it SIX stars. Today, less than three weeks later, the price with shipping is around $62!!! From $16 to $62 in three weeks?! I'll buy no more at this price.
