Great for instant! February 12, 2010 Randall Colelli (Auburn, WA) I bought this, Miso Ramen, and the Hot and Sour soups from this brand, and this was my favorite of the three. Tastes great for vegan (my first time trying vegan instant food) and has a great seasoning blend. Of all the flavors by this brand, I recommend trying this one first if you're just stepping into vegan territory.
DELICIOUS!!! February 2, 2010 gmlcapecod A great gluten-free product that's easy to take to work - and really enjoy! My office mate's about to buy her own, and she doesn't even have Celiac Disease!
There are better McDougall varieties November 18, 2009 Kiwihunter (Atlanta, GA) I have to agree with the other naysayers on this one. It has an odd flavor to it and I suspect it's because of the fruit powders - I think the tamarind powder gives it the weird flavor/aftertaste. I think I would like this a lot more if that were absent.
I don't know much about Thai cooking but others are saying it doesn't taste like Pad Thai anyway, so removal of what may be a Thai ingredient (tamarind) isn't going to make sales go down.
There's still the standard good stuff that stands for most McDougall varieties. You get a lot of it, it's convenient and great to have around at the office for a more healthy-than-the-vending machine snack. I suspect it would be more satisfying too, nice and hot soup mmm!
So, I won't be buying it again. May I recommend the Spring Onion Noodle Soup? That is a very tasty one to buy in lieu of this variety.
I wouldn't call this Pad Thai November 2, 2009 Marsha (san francisco, ca United States) I love Pad Thai. I order it frequently at Thai restaurants, I buy a frozen version at Trader Joe's, and I have bought make-at-home boxed mixes. I love them all. I was really excited to see a shelf stable version I could take to work and have for a quick lunch on a busy day. I've had other Dr. McDougall's soups before and thought most of them were fine, but I was very disappointed by this one. That there was too much sauce is excusable because it is, after all, called a soup. That the noodles weren't right is excusable because you are reconstituting them in a few minutes by adding boiling water. But the flavor is NOT AT ALL like Pad Thai, and for the life of me I can't figure out why they hung that label on this product. Pad Thai should be slightly sweet with maybe a hint of peanut. This tastes like the same salty faux meat flavors found in several of their other soups plus a slight sour taste. This isn't inedible - but if you were expecting anything resembling Pad Thai you will be disappointed.
Pretty darn good for something so easy to prepare! July 2, 2009 Rebecca K. Knight (New Orleans, LA) I found this product while shopping at Whole Foods. It makes a great, healthy, fast lunch. I love Thai food so always have fish sauce on hand at home so I add a splash of that and also usually a teeny bit of brown sugar since I like my pad thai on the sweeter side. This is a great product!!
