Amazon.com Product Description The Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor is easy to program and a cinch to wear with a ventilated watch band. Knowing your heart rate is important because if you're working out too hard, your activity can actually become counter productive and strain or damage muscles. Monitor your heart rate with Omron's HR-100C. View larger. | To achieve an effective workout, no matter what the aerobic activity, you must maintain your heart rate at a proper level for a minimum of 20 minutes. In general, the proper level falls between 65 percent-85 percent of your maximum heart rate. To ensure you don't drop above or below your proper level, the HR-100C is built with an alarm option that indicates low and high heart rates. Omron includes a chest transmitter belt with the wristwatch-style monitor. This transmitter sends data to the receiver on your wrist at a distance up to 98 feet (30 meters). The HR-100C is built with a backlight function for exercising after nightfall, and it also displays time of day and a daily reminder alarm feature. Also included is a mounting bracket that makes it easy to attach the watch receiver to most treadmills and bicycles and a soft, zippered storage case. What's in the Box HR-100C hear rate monitor, chest transmitter, mounting bracket, and zippered storage case. | Compare Omron Fitness Monitors | | HB-400 | HB-500 | HBF-306 | HR-100 | | Measurement | - Body fat percentage

Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) is considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are body tissues having a high water content that conduct electricity easily. Body fat is tissue that has little electric conductivity. The monitor sends an extremely weak electrical current through your body to determine the amount of fat tissue. The weak electrical current is not felt while operating the Body Fat Analyzer. The monitor is calculated by a formula that includes five factors; electric resistance, height, weight, age and gender. What is visceral fat? Visceral fat is located around the organs. Too much visceral fat is thought to be closely linked to increased level of fat in the bloodstream, which can lead to common conditions such as high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Sedentary life style causes excess visceral fat, and exercise can reduce it quicker than subcutaneous fat (fat located under skin). What is resting metabolism? Resting metabolism is the energy to maintain vital functions and it counts 60 to 70% of total energy consumption. Knowing your resting metabolism can help your dietplan. If you can increase daily activity while keeping food intake at resting metabolism level, you can lose weight. What is skeletal muscle? Skeletal muscle is muscle attached to the bones that is used to move the body. If you do weight loss without exercise, you may lose skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is important to maintain your resting metabolism as well as your functionality. Monitoring skeletal muscle during weight loss is key to avoid weight rebound in the future.

Great Product Great Price November 14, 2009 S. Johnson (Lafayette, IN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great value
Comfortable (Also, Large range of adjustment for fit, maybe 1" more than Timex on wrist)
Simple to use
Simple Data (time/date/alarm, stopwatch, current heart rate, min\max alarm) NO history or data logging.
Most of the time when you only spend $30 on something you think it's going to be poorly made and feel like no one put any time or effort into the design. This product although very simple has a nice look. Your wife won't let you wear it to church but it isn't distracting. Also the buttons have nice travel and a soft push, think opposite of the original Timex Ironman. The wrist band is generous, I normally can't wear sport watches because my wrists are to big but this one has room to spare, also rare for $30. The transmitter is simple plastic on the front 12" and then an adjustable elastic band, again I'm a big guy and this would fit someone bigger. The battery on the chest strap is easy to get to and the watch would need jeweler's screwdriver. Just got it today so I don't know about battery life. The watch seems to know when it isn't moving and stops update HR this is a plus because it will save batteries.
works maybe 60% of the time November 12, 2009 sugar cane shakey, shakey, shakey, reading all over the place, then for extended periods of time it stops all together. how do i get my money back?????????????
wonderful tool for the gym November 11, 2009 Stan Currie (Santa Monica) This is a great tool for use in the gym. I use it during spin class and it keeps me on track. Easy to use. Comfortable. Nice way to keep on pace.
Have since started using it during other exercise, such as stairmaster and biking. It has helped me to get to know my body better and it's a great way to see how much healthier my heart has gotten, getting back to "resting" pulse quicker and quicker each time.
great price, kind of BIG...caution to the small-boned! November 7, 2009 A. Ko (Houston, Tx) The GOOD:
* amazingly low price. other heart rate monitors seemed quite pricey and i did not know if i really needed one. this is a great monitor for the first-time user
* works with gym electronic bikes and treadmills. the heart rate automatically displays in front of you on your machine. cool!
* watch depicted heart rates are analogous to the treadmill/bike machine's heart rate readings
The BAD:
* well, unless i read the instructions wrong, it seems like you can only go one direction when programming things into the watch. for example, if you want to put in a maximum heart rate, you have to keep pushing the up button until you peak 220, then keep going through the low numbers until you reach your target max heart rate. a little bit of a pain.
* if you are small-boned, it is a tad big. i feel like it is more of a man's watch but i still use it anyways. i have to have the watch flipped so the facing is against the bottom of my wrist to keep it comfortable. the manual says the chest strap can go to 22" as the smallest setting. let's just say, i'm on the smallest setting and i have not lost the weight i want to yet. overall, this product appears to be made for larger people but works for the tiny if you are on a budget
* i don't use conductive gel. sometimes the heart rate monitor loses grip and does not read onto my watch. it just says "0". but, once i work up a sweat, it works quite well. nothing to worry about.
The UGLY:
* nothing yet. i have only been using it for 1 week. i think it's a great buy
simple & effective November 2, 2009 MC All I wanted was a heart rate monitor and a watch. Because I didn't want all the extra fancy feature, I was worried I would have to purchase a piece of junk that would die after a year. However, I am very happy with this simple, inexpensive item. It's exactly what I wanted and looks and feels like a quality item.
