Junk - bought 2 sets for gifts..1 set one of the units would not work at all, second set, one of the units kept running after installing batteries. Since these were given as gifts, the 30 return policy had expired. amazon should stop selling these units. junk.
Great Price September 20, 2008
Used them for about a month now and they perform better than expected. Great price and product plus fast shipping. These replaced another company's set that cost more, wore out soon and were hard to keep batteries in place inside column. These have a battery retainer.
Defective product August 31, 2008
The grinding mechanism failed to grind pepper after the first few days. It merely hung up, and I had to disassemble the grinder to free it. I tried several times, and each time it hung up.
Also the light in the salt grinder failed about the same time as the pepper grinder failed. It does, however, continue, to grind salt; well maybe not now; my wife has threatened to throw them into the trash, and she may well have by now!
 Confusing dual descriptions, but... August 12, 2008
The description I read when I bought these last month said: 2 AA batteries needed. Now, I see there is another description above the first one saying: 4 AA batteries needed. I bought these based on the 2-battery theory...that was a major buying point for me...I was quite surprised and disappointed when I ended up with 4 battery grinders. But they do work and so far, no problems.
My husband complains they are too tall and unstable. They keep falling over when put onto a tray to transfer from kitchen to table. I just lay them down. Short and compact would be preferable.
Bottom Line: For the money, we can't complain too loudly.
