5 out of 5 stars Good after I changed it   August 30, 2008
It's a good product and it's doing what I expect to. I had to change it because the first one didn't work at all, but Seagate change it for no cost. The one that I have installed right now is working just good.

4 out of 5 stars not too shabby for a boring looking brick   August 27, 2008
got this unit for a couple weeks already but didn't have the time to set it up until now. let me tell you..., was easy. i think even my grandmother in heaven can set this up without reading the manual. the interface is fairly intuitive but for some advanced users it may be lacking options. i love the fact that it's quiet but it does get hot since it doesn't have a built-in fan. i just make sure it's in a well-vented area so the drive can live a little longer.

in terms of performance, it's not the fastest out there. but for the price, i can live with it. i don't have the need for tremendous transfer rate (at least not yet). for most SOHO users, i would presume mostly involve with small scale backups/transfers of files anyway. with the styling however, it certainly doesn't have anything to rave about, so if you are looking for a "fashionable" drive, this won't be it.

all in all, it's a pretty good drive. so far it has performed up to my expectations and i certainly hope it'll keep performing; no one would like a NAS that doesn't last you a long time....

3 out of 5 stars kind of strange name but good product   August 25, 2008
This is my first experience with a nas and it is a little mixed. Lets start with the looks. The drive is black with white indicator lights a clean and simple look. the trapezoid shape is a little strange, but the drive is not an eyesore by any means. It also does not have a fan making the drive nice and quiet. Also the who thought that naming the drive after the two powers from World War I and II was a good idea?

Installation of the drive was a snap, just pop in the cd and install the software with it plugged into your router/switch and it does all the work for you. My computer is the only computer on the network at the moment so I have no opinion with using the nas with multiple computers.

I did have a few problems with the drive, but it may be due to my router more than the nas. I've lost connection with the drive multiple times while transferring large amounts of data (600 GB). Transfer speeds across the network is slow due to my router only being 100mbps. If you plan on getting a nas a gigabit switch/router is definitely a must have.

Overall this nas is a pretty decent buy. It is very easy to use and it's capacity is more than worth it at this price point.

1 out of 5 stars Lies about working with Mac   August 22, 2008
I've just purchased this device to backup my Macbook because of a hard drive crash.

I specifically bought the device because it would work with a Mac and I've met all of their minimum requirements.

So I hook up the thing, and their software doesn't find the drive as it's supposed to. I think, oh that'll be okay, I'll just configure the IP in the device and it'll be good from here on out.

Nope, It *must* run through the detect phase of the program every time. After a lot of trial and error, I got the thing to detect, but not reliably. This means backups don't happen as scheduled. Pretty much making the product worthless to me.

I spoke with their tech. support, when I told them I was using with a mac they actually said "you're killing me"

I recommend against this product if you have a mac.

4 out of 5 stars Great performer for the budget-conscious   August 22, 2008
1TB of network attached storage that's fast, reliable and easy to set up. That's this drive in a nutshell. Tack on the fact that it doubles as a print server and can be accessed via the Internet securely, and this drive becomes a superstar product IMO.

I recently put about 15 gigs of videos and photos onto this thing to share across my LAN. It was fast, and I can play my videos off it without a hitch.

I have not yet used the backup functionality on it, but I hear it's real easy.

The drive was real easy to set up. Just installed the included software on one PC and ran the configuration, then the drive showed up on the network for all my other computers.

Just need to find more stuff to fill this bad boy up with now!
