Thanks to HP Vivera inks and a print resolution of up to 1200 dpi black and 4800 x 1200 dpi color, all your prints--from text documents to colorful presentation--will be sharp and clear. Fast, too! The C4480 offers print and copy speeds up to 30 ppm black and up to 23 ppm color. By adding HP's optional 6-ink photo cartridge, you can produce lab-quality photos as well. A 4 x 6-inch photo will be ready in a mere 25 seconds. Thanks to a built-in memory card reader and a 1.5-inch color display, you can easily print photos without a PC; simply insert the memory card and make sure everything looks okay on the LCD screen. The C4480 can handle a variety of print media including plain, inkjet, and photo papers, envelopes, transparencies, labels, cards, iron-on transfers, borderless media, and panoramic paper up to 8.5 x 24-inches. It can also produce a borderless print up to 8.5 x 11 inches. When you are using different types of media, you can be assured of optimal results thanks to the printer's automatic paper-type sensor.  Really good for college September 28, 2008
I really like the HP PhotoSmart C4480 printer and it works really great for a college student and since it is fairly small it is perfect for being in a dorm room. The set up was extremely easy and fast even for a Macintosh computer. The one thing else that I needed to get for it was a USB cord because it doesn't come with one, but it comes with ink so you don't have to buy ink right off the bat and most colleges carry the ink for the printer. The paper feed tray folds right in and over the opening so if you need more space you can close it up and only open it when you need it. The speed for printing is also very nice because I forgot to print out a 5 page paper up until five minutes to get to class and it printed it in under 30 seconds while I was throwing everything else in my bag for class.

I got this printer with my new Macbook. It's snazzy looking, but when I tried to do the initial installation it wouldn't let me insert the black printer cartridge. After 3 excruciating hours on the phone with a completely bureaucratic and incompetent tech support team in what must have been 3 different countries, they determined it was broken (I could have told them that) and that I needed to return it via mail. So I did. And now the replacement printer that they sent me is having the exact same problem, and here I am on hold once again with a horrible tech support team. I swear it isn't me that's the problem because all of my roommates have tried to figure it out too. All I wanted was a normal printer that functioned with minimal hassle, but I guess that was too much to ask. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK.

I am dissapointed with this priner. First of all, I have to say that the reason I bought it was to print text and pictures and something that would work well with Vista. Text was fine. Installation was easy. But I have to say that the pictures did NOT turn out well. I compaired the same exact photos of this printer with my four-year old hp version all-in-one and these pictures were truly BAD. Grainy and pixalated. I'm very upset that I have to go through the hassle of repackaging and returning. I didn't expect professional photographs but I definitely expected better that this. If you aren't going to print pictures to put in frames, and are just looking for a cheap text printer, than this is good, but if you print photos much, I don't recommend the C4480.

I love this printer. The only irritating thing is that if you want to print in gray-scale, you have to go into properties and change it every time. But it works great, even with Windows vista. (and nothing works with windows vista...)
Love it.
