Distance Issue August 31, 2008 Have only had the item for a few days - still works!! Issue is the transmit distance. Might be 100 feet if you don't put it inside the frig. Had to attach the receiver to the outside of the frig to get it to work- might get 10 feet if I open the frig door.
Chaney WIreless thermometer - limited range August 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am very satisfied with this product, except for the fact that the range of the wireless readout is VERY limited. The only way I could get it to work reliably was to mount the readout on the outside of the freezer!
I have two freezers in the garage and had hoped to be able to have the readout in the kitchen - a distance of about 10', through 2 walls. That didn't work, so I put it in the laundry room adjacent to the wall that the freezers were on. Even that didn't work. So I had to put the readout right next to the freezers. So the temperature alarm is not as useful as being in the house. However, since we do go out to the garage often (at least once a day), it's better than not having the alarm.
The problem we had was that the freezers are plugged into a GFI circuit, and the GFI breaker would trip periodically. So we wanted the alarm to prevent melting everything in the freezers.
You do need to buy the lithium batteries though, alkaline batteries just won't work very well in a sub-zero environment!
Nice idea - poor range August 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted a thermometer with an alarm for a freezer in my garage. Like many others have written (very poor range). I even tried line of sight with NO obstructions. It couldn't even do 25'.
Another issue: I pulled the batteries from the sensors to see how the display would react. I waited 10 minutes and there was no change in display. I tried 30 minutes, but it still displayed the last recorded temp. I tried 2 hours, but no change in the display. Even after 2 hours the unit displayed the last measured temperatures.
I gave up, and returned it.
Instead I purchased a 915mHz outdoor thermometer from Lacross Technology. I also purchased their TX25U-IT sensor. No alarms, but long range, reasonably accurate, and reasonably priced.
Keep it FRESH! August 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just bought my 3rd Wireless 00985 and mailed it to my girlfriend and mother who easily had it up and running with a little support over the phone. They love to see that their freezer and fridge are at optimum degree's to keep food as it should be...fresh. I love this product and can only say "Gotta Get One"! Tried several others but no luck. Make sure to use the litium AA batteries for the transmitters you place in the freezer and fridge. Litium can withstand extreme tempetures.
Piece of garbage! August 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've edited my review with new information. The thermometer sensor failed 40 days after my purchase. The seller won't replace it nor refund it since I'm outside my 30 day warranty. I wish I had not wasted my money on this cheap junk. I also wish I could change my star rating from 5 to 1.
