Nice idea, still needs a lot of work March 17, 2010 Cameron Ingram Great idea, still needs A LOT of work. I've been using my inteval for about 3 months and I have been having nothing but problems. First, as many others have mentioned, keeping the ear buds in your ear is extremely difficult. I've tried using all the different sizes of buds that they provide and it didn't help. I have tried using a swim cap and wrapping the headphones around my goggle straps and it does not help. Second, the case is bulky on the back of the goggle strap. Every time I push off the wall the case gets pulled back. If I push hard enough I can get the case to flip upside down. In order to prevent this I have to give an easy push off the wall and keep my chin up. I'm not interested in changing the way I swim. Third, the sound quality is poor and drowned out. Forth, the product leaked on me. I have sent the interval and my, now broken, ipod back to H2Audio in hopes to get a reimbursement. They received the product over 3 weeks ago and now I can not get in touch with anyone from customer service to answer my phone calls or reply to my e-mails. So I wouldhave to rate their customer service a 1 out of 5 as well. All in all I was really hoping this product would work. I swim approx 5 miles a week and I would like to be able to listen to my tunes while I worked out. I love the concept but there is a lot of work that still needs to be done before this product will take off.
High quality audio, but mine did not work properly after 1 week February 5, 2010 Steve I was able to get a good fit with the ear pieces. As long as you can keep the headphone ear interface water tight, the sound is excellent. Even a drop of water will knock the sound out. I found that I could not do flip turn as a result (dislodged the ear pieces). As long as I did not do the flip turns, I could listen to beautiful music for my 30 min work outs.
Now for the bad. After one week of use, the buttons on the outside of the device stopped working and I could not change the volume or pause the player. Now I need to return for a new one. It is so good, I am hopeful this one will work. I would definately buy again, but the fact that it broke after a week worries me.
Snap, crackle, pop February 1, 2010 Barry Venison (Pullman, WA) I have been using this system for about a month. I swim about three times a week, so I've used this product about 12 times in the pool, and I'm still trying to make it work properly. I have had issues with the earphones popping out and also with the fact that ambient noise from just swimming freestyle interferes with good sound. These problems are manageable, and would be ok, especially on a product I really want to like. However, I've also had problems with one earphone being about 3x louder than the other, as well as one earhphone emitting an annoying crackle when playing music. I contacted H20 Audio about the balance problem, who just suggested that I send it back to be fixed. After fooling around with the seal, it appeared that when the earphones are inserted, if there is too much or too little pressure in the ear canal, the earphone can't "fire" correctly, and the sound is muffled. After more or less resolving that problem, the crackle issue cropped up. I fixed that by sticking a bobby pin into the earphone hole and pushing gently on the membrane (I have no idea why this solved the problem). At this point, the most frustrating thing would be to have to spend lots of time and effort on sending the product back to H20 Audio - perhaps it is too much to ask that a $90 product just works out of the box. I think that H20 Audio has done well at promoting the product with high-profile names like Phelps and Coughlin. Now they should focus their attention on making a higher quality product.
Just okay January 30, 2010 Cokie Lepinski (Bay Area, CA) Had to return the first one as the volume up/down buttons worked only intermittently. H2O folks promptly sent out a new one and they were great to deal with. With both units, I wrestled with keeping the ear pieces in place. I've switched out different size ear buds that H2O supplies, but still can't get the darned things to stay in place, even when I put my cap over top of the unit and try all different kinds of tricks to keep them in place. Maybe I'll duct tape them! Anyway, sound quality is just a bit tinny and when you are swimming freestyle, the music often gets drowned out. It is great for kick sets when your head is out of the water or just at the surface line. The deeper you go, the harder it is to hear the music. For example, when I swim breaststroke, it is good as I go into my pull (and my head breaks the surface of the water), and not as good as I kick out of the stroke.
I'll keep playing with this for awhile and hoping to make it work. The iPod Shuffle 4th generation was worth it all anyway!

The quality of these is terrible, I tried multiple earpieces and while they would fit fine outside of the water, they just won't stay in long enough to do more than one or two laps, until the water seeps in and the sound cuts out. I called h2o Audio, their advice was to purchase wax ear plugs and use it to seal them. So they acknowledge that the design is poor and they don't work, and the best they can do is offer a workaround. Well, I tried the wax ear plugs and it didn't help much at all. If you cake on a lot of wax you can get maybe another length out of them (after spending about 5 minutes fitting it in), if you use just a little wax it doesn't help at all. This company is a joke, I've tried a few of their products hoping to get something reasonable to listen to music while swimming, everything they make that I've seen is overpriced JUNK, their customer service is poor and it's all really overpriced. If only their R&D team had enough brains to copy Etymotics design - their in-ear flange system works GREAT. Part of the reason is probably that it is well made out of quality material (looks silicone based to me) - unlike H2O who uses poor quality injection molding (please, you can see the mold flash lines!!! and cheap rubber. This stuff is JUNK. Make sure if you purhcase it that wherever you purchase it from has a generous return policy, because I predict you'll be using it!
