Great Value In A Navigation System November 18, 2009 Just A Home Woodworker (Pecatonica, IL United States) Bought this device as a "refurb" and it basically arrived as a new unit. The thing works great. The ONLY negative comment on operation is the TERRIBLE zoom feature. Who came up with that?! I am buying a couple more for Christmas gifts though!
Magellan Maestro 4370 November 16, 2009 GJT Received in like new condition for being a refurb. So far works great. Excellent screen. Comes with 3 month traffic which works well.very happy with purchase.
Factory Refurbished... Humbug! November 15, 2009 Quasar2010 (Dallas, TX) I ordered a factory refurbished unit in early November. I connected it to the AC adapter when it arrived and attempted to charge the battery. The battery did not charge after 12 hours on the adapter. I then connected it to the automobile adapter for six hours. Same thing... no power in the battery at all. I assumed this was a rare event and sent it to Magellan for repair ($9.00 shipping; two week turnaround).
I then ordered a second refurbished unit (I know, I know... Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!) I received the second unit and it has the exact same problem. Amazon says they can't replace it because they are out of the item; they can only refund my purchase price. Magellan will accept it as a warranty item, so I guess I will send it to them, but that will add another $9.00 to the cost of the product and at least another two weeks delay before I finally receive a working product, assuming Magellan can finally do the work correctly.
It is absurd that a major company like Magellan repeatedly ships obviously defective products. For me to randomly be sold two units that suffer from the same defect tells me the factory refurbishing process is fraught with poor quality control.
The product may, in the end, turn out to be great, but a one star review is what I am giving since I have received two units that suffer from the same major defect, have had to go to the trouble of shipping the items to the manufacturer to get a working unit, have had to wait an additional two weeks for each item, and, most irritating of all, had to pay an additional 8.5% to have the problem corrected.
A good buy for the price November 14, 2009 D. Nomura (Northern CA) I purchased a refurbished unit, and after receiving the unit and charging it up, I turned it on. It's very helpful to have the AAA stuff included with the unit, and it worked extremely well mapping out a route on a recent trip. It was most helpful when we got hit with a heavy rainstorm and were in unfamiliar territory and couldn't clearly see the street signs clearly. It saved us a lot of time on our journey.
The only bad thing is the short battery life. If you use it on a long journey, you will need to keep it charged by using the cigarette lighter adapter.
For the price. It was a good buy. It's a solid unit. It is easy to use. It has all the maps we need. If you don't want to sped a great deal of money, I would suggest getting this unit.
defective November 7, 2009 A. Cencetti (Philadelphia) second one that does not work. The first allowed me to charge it, it turned on and immediately turned off automatically, could not even use it. The second one worked only showing how to get there bit not actually getting you there, it wa like in a demo frozen state.Completely useless. I will try a 3rd one if not good I will give up.
