I absolutely love my ASUS 1005HA-PU1X netbook! I bought it primarily for travel and it has met my every need. On a recent trip to Asia, I couldn't help but repeatedly remark how light it was in my carry-on bag. It felt like air compared to the 15" laptop I've lugged around on previous trips. While traveling, I mostly need a computer to check email and edit documents. Once I installed Office 2007 on it, I was able to do all of those things.
One thing I did change was the RAM. I ordered Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory at the same time I ordered the netbook and, while it did make things a little faster, it wasn't an amazing improvement considering the basic software I was using. The upgrade was easy because this model has a dedicated access door to just the memory card. I didn't get time to install the upgrade until after the Asia trip, and I didn't suffer without it. If you just need the machine for everyday tasks, it will perform well straight out of the box.
For price/quality/features, this is definitely one of the best netbooks out there. I couldn't be more pleased with mine.

I spent a LOT of time researching before I bought because I don't plan on upgrading every time a new bell or whistle comes out. I know I made the right choice.
Great battery life, very fast on my wireless router, does websites with flash and other media supported elements and even though I still love my Blackberry I needed something with a bit more "umph" to store vacation pics in on the road and attach files to email. No, there's no DVD player in it...but I have watched Netflix instant movies on it with my Netflix accounts. That's better because one less thing to carry (CD jewel cases) makes it lighter and more mobile.
I have friends with Laptops and they say once they load all the cables and chargers and accessories it weighs in at about 15 pounds. I like my lightweight Asus even more now. Sure this one has a larger battery. But it doesn't really make a huge difference and it gives me a nice "handle" on the netbook.

I offer readers one valuable piece of advice, if you have any problems with this product after purchase, return it to Amazon right away. Amazon customer service is so much better! ASUS has very, very bad customer service. We had problems with it freezing up and after wasting 3 months trying to troubleshoot it, we returned it to ASUS for a replacement. Their company policy says "No replacements, we will repair the PC". They also promised me a 7-day guarantee on repairs. Today is my 7th day and they said they are still waiting on parts to fix it. When I asked for an estimated date when they can send it back to me, they said they don't know. They said I should just "relax" and know it's being fixed. Relax?!?!?
First of all, this was a factory-defective brand new PC, shouldn't they have replaced it with a new one?
Second, it's taking them forever to fix one of their own products and couldn't deliver on a 7 day guarantee? It took Nintendo a day to ship my Wii back, and I didn't have to pay for shipping. ASUS had me pay for shipping! I am so disappointed with ASUS and will never buy another product from them again. I think they are suffering from growing pains and are churning out millions of netbooks for profit, but with a lot of disregard for quality and better customer service. I'm sure there are some lucky ones out there who didn't have any problems with theirs. That's understandable if there is one that didn't really pass QC but still got sold. But shouldn't they own up to this mistake? Shouldn't there be a little bit more effort on their part to try to fix the problem? Shame on you, ASUS!

I received my Asus 1005HA yesterday installed the two gb ram and tried to turn it on and the screen remained blank. I called Asus and was told that I would have to send it in to Asus and, because I had installed additional memory, the repair would not be under warranty. There was no attempt to make even the most basic diagnosis (asking whether I had charged the battery or what efforts I had made to turn it on, etc). The service representative was also unable to tell me how long the repair would take. I now regret having ordered this and not approaching the purchase logically. I would urge anyone considering buying this to consider these things:
1) a significant percentage of people gave this product a one or a two. These people for the most part had truly awful experiences with the netbook.
2) Even though there were a huge number of people who gave it five stars, many of these reviews indicate that the reviewers had just gotten or recently started using the computer. Given the fact that many of the problems reported deal with problems with the power cords which occur after several weeks of use, the good reviews written immediately after receipt of the computer do not go to the question of the longer term reliability of the product.
3) The suggestions that the power cord problems are the faults of the users do not explain why no other brand seems to be plagued by the same type of problem.
4) Although I may have missed it, I have not seen a single review that suggests that Asus service is good or responsive. Given that, purchasers are essentially taking a gamble that their netbook will operate well and continue operating well.
The ability to share experiences with products is one of the greatest advantages of internet purchasing. I truly regret not having taken full advantage of that before. For the people who have had great experiences with this product, I hope that your experience continues to be good and that you never require servicing for your computer. The prospect of having to wait long periods of time to ship the product out and wait for its return (at my own expense) when it is not working is completely counter to what I'm looking for, which is to have a reliable computer that I can use while travelling. I will look elsewhere for a netbook.
