Great Mini November 20, 2009 S. Terrill (Rockford IL) Love my Toshiba Mini. No problems with WiFi setup as it is now configured to be on when shipped. I set up my home network without the Toshiba easy setup tool. Battery life is at least what is advertised. Power settings are easy to use to keep the screen bright. Two things I do not like are the shiny exterior (black) which is a fingerprint magnet and the shiny screen. (whoever thought that was a good idea?) It really helped my decision to read all of the other reviews. Keyboard is nice and I do not make the typing errors that I found in testing the other netbooks on the market. I bought the Samsung DVD/CD and find it small and works well. Read the documentation, it is all there.
great design, good performance November 19, 2009 Mete Saat (Pgh, PA) the first netbook I received was making a terrible, extremely disturbing shrill. Amazon replaced it and the new one is so far so good. The keyboard feels very high quality but it`s a little bit on the small side especially for people like me with larger hands. The tab key which I like to use heavily on spreadsheets is very tiny, its like half of other keys. Other than this, Toshiba mini really looks wonderful, it is eyetaking. It`s performs what it offers, I don`t expect it to be as good as a notebook, but one should consider upgrading the ram asap.
Baby Blue November 19, 2009 cold feet (Davis, CA USA) I love my Royal blue NB 205. I've been using it pretty steadily for two months for email and internet surfing. I still like to use my desktop for serious computing and surfing, but this is very wonderful. We deleted the toshiba bloatware and easily downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird and other programs we like to use. I thought I'd never get used to using a touchpad, but it didn't take but a couple of days use so have not bothered buying a mouse for it. Looking forward to taking it on a trip in lieu of my old Palm Pilot or buying a big, heavy laptop. As always, amazon.com service was helpful and fast.
Does not work out of the box November 17, 2009 James S. Kelley (BALTIMORE, MD USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Difficult wireless connection. Toolbars take up half the screen. No useful software included. You have to download calendars etc. Norton--a commercial virus-- is included and is difficult to remove. Difficult to scroll e-msil. Csn be customized but why should it be necessary. Buy a smart phone instead.
Pleased so far... November 17, 2009 Sandy B Ande (Seattle, WA USA) Bought as a second laptop for around the house and for returning to college.
LOVE the size. Fits right in my school bag. So far, it is operating well.
Good battery life.
Great keyboard, feels almost full size, easy to type on. Touchpad is easy to use. I rarely pull my mouse out.
Screen is just big enough that there is no horizontal scrolling necessary.
Bought an inexpensive external disc drive which works fine so far. Watching videos online is sometimes a bit jerky, but not impossible. I watch a lot on Hulu. Picture is clear, just a tad jerky. Netflix seemed to stream better. But, that's not the strong point for these minis. I was just glad it was at least a possibility when I couldn't get access to our main home laptop.
The webcam is OK. Works fine, but the picture is not perfect, and it's pixelated with too much movement. But again, it's passable.
You'll definitely wanna keep some earbuds or headphones nearby if you plan to do much with audio. The tiny little speaker doesn't do anything justice, and depending on the video can sometimes barely be heard at all. But with earbuds, the sound is great.
I updated to the 2GB RAM, but it seemed to work fine with the 1GB, so it's not a necessity.
I researched a lot before buying and this one was consistently rated high and reviewed favorably. Hopefully over time these minis will get better and better. It certainly isn't going to compare to your full-size laptop, but it serves its purpose - great for school and travel, and great for not having to fight over the big laptop every day around my house :)
