5 out of 5 stars It just works.   November 7, 2009
Chino (Miami, FL USA)

The skinny:

1.) It works. It's IR to BT, so if you have your PS3 hiding in a closet or cabinet, no matter--just place the adapter in-line-of-sight (and within BT range of your PS3--about 30 feet) to your harmony remote and let the BT's RF signal control your PS3. Finally, a one remote solution for the home theater.
2.) It pairs easily. Just add it as a bluetooth remote and press the red "connect" button on the bottom of the device when prompted to by the PS3.
3.) It's expensive. With the Sony BT remote costing about $20, this is more than 150% more expensive.

Of note: I wanted to hide all of my equipment in a media closet, so I have this sitting next to the RF "blaster" from my Harmony 900 in my closet. The IR signal from the blaster is more than strong enough to activate the PS3 adapter so I did not have to plug an IR to IR patch cord from the blaster to the PS3 adapter.

Also, I wonder if anyone else has tried this with any IR remote OTHER than the Harmony remotes. Since it is a simple IR to BT adapter (I think?), I wonder if it would work with this?

I just had another thought... If you already have either (a) a powered USB port on your HTPC or on your Power Conditioner or a (b) USB Travel Charger and a USB to Mini-USB cable, you could use one of these instead of the Harmony adapter and achieve the same thing for about $10-15 less.

5 out of 5 stars PS3 Adapter for Harmony Remote   November 5, 2009

I have all my equipment in a cabinet behind solid wood doors and use an IR extender.

This adapter works perfectly with the extender and with my harmony 1000 and lets
me utilize all the features of the PS3

Definitely worth the purchase price.

5 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it's meant to do   November 5, 2009

I own this product and I purchased it from Amazon. I will be reviewing the product and not Amazon.

The Logitech Harmony PS3 Adapter does exactly what it is designed to do, it allows you to control your PS3 with your Harmony remote. I'm not really sure what the reviewers who are giving this product a bad review were hoping that it would do, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do.

As for the price, when you want your system to work with one remote, who cares about $50 for an adapter? I have a modest home theater setup that I've put about $5,000 into and I know a lot of people out there have way more than that into their setup. For me, the price of this adapter was 1% of my total cost for my home theater setup, so I don't care that it cost $50.

Overall, I highly recommend this product as it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

5 out of 5 stars Logitech Adapter Works Perfectly with new PS3 Slim   November 2, 2009
Paul D. Marsh (Sacramento, CA)
I've recently replaced my Sony TV with a new Samsung LED LCD TV and wanted to enjoy 1080 HDTV in all its glory, so I purchased a PlayStation 3 Slim for its Blu-ray player and its hard drive for storage. Unfortunately, the PS3 has no IR receiver, so I needed a way to convert the IR from my Harmony 880 remote to Bluetooth to control the PS3 Slim. Enter the Logitech Harmony IR-to-Bluetooth Adapter.

I plugged the adapter into power, started up the PS3 Slim, followed the included instructions to the appropriate PS3 Slim menu item to pair the new device, and pressed the connect button on the bottom of the adapter. It immediately connected without incident.

I then updated my Harmony configuration by adding the PS3 Slim as a new device and created a new Activity on the remote to control it. I pointed the Harmony 880 at the PS3 Slim and it worked perfectly. It even turns the PS3 Slim on and off, and it's worlds easier using the standard DVD control buttons on the remote over trying to use the PS3 Slim game controller to watch movies - move around menus, make selections, pause, jump forward/back to the next/previous movie chapter marks, eject the disk when you're finished. I'm not much of a game player, so trying to remember which controller button (triangle, circle, X, Select, Play, PS, colored buttons, assorted other buttons) did what, by trial and error since the PS3 Slim instructions don't enlighten much, was a real pain.

If you have a Harmony IR Remote, I highly recommend giving this adapter a try.

To avoid potential issues, I'd also recommend plugging your PS3 Slim into your broadband Internet connection so you can update its firmware to the latest version. My new PS3 Slim was manufactured only a couple of months ago, yet a new update was already out. I also made sure my Harmony 880 Remote was running its latest software version when I added the new PS3 Slim device.

I've only been using the adapter a week, but so far it's worked flawlessly.
