Very slow loading time November 7, 2009 GreenArrow (Los Angeles, CA United States) I decided on this Sony bluray player because I have a Sony HD TV. I figured same brand, less hassle. This player produces excellent picture quality from bluray discs but there is much to be desired when playing DVDs. This bluray player's upconverting is NOT on par with the Sony DVD player (DVP-NS710), which I consider as excellent. I was able to compare upconversion picture quality as I have both players, but if you don't have both players to compare PQ then you would likely never notice the difference. The main reason I give this bluray player only 3 stars is because of the slooooooow loading time. It's quite a wait between the time when I load the tray to the time when the movie starts playing. (Although there is a menu option to speed up the load time I've chosen not to turn on the option as I prefer to have the built-in fan kick in right away.) I updated the firmware hoping that load time would speed up but no luck.
good purchase November 5, 2009 Chris D. Finnerty (tulsa, ok) This was a great addition to our media room. i liked it to so much i bought another one..

Easy to use. Have not played any Blue Rays as yet, but have scaled from regular 480 DVDs. I have not tried to quantify the resolution increase with scaling - I am using a 1080p display.

can't give much of a review since I don't know that they're functional. However, I received a Sony BluRay player for Christmas 2008 and love it. My review of this purchase is based on use of my unit.
Sony is great. October 17, 2009 S. Thomas 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
It took me a awhile to buy a Blueray player. I have a large dvd collection and have used a up-comvert player for the past year. This player has an amazing picture and sound, I am very pleased with the purchase.
