Best Printer I've Ever Owned! November 20, 2009 Cavs Fan (Cleveland, OH) The Canon Pixma 860 is an Excellent printer! It was very easy to set up for wireless printing. The scanning & copying features are terrific! Color copies are just like the originals! Simply put, this printer actually does what it claims! I'm so fed up with HP. They have terrible service, refuse to create new drivers for older printers or PCs. I'll never buy HP again. The Canon experience has been the complete opposite in every good way! The drivers were easy to install, and they already have Windows 7 drivers, unlike most HP hardware. The Canon is a little slow in printing, and the ink cartridges are small. However, I bought mine 6 months ago and haven't changed ink yet, so that's pretty good!
Canon's website is actually helpful. I also called their tech support for other supplies and received great service! If you want this type of multi-function inkjet printer, don't look any further. I rarely give reviews, but this is one product that has actually been better than my expectations! Get it!
Canon thought of everything on this one. November 20, 2009 jeanie35 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I did not need the fax or the wireless. It does come with an electric cord. At first I thought I might return it and get one without the fax and the wireless, but decided for the price I would just keep it. I am THRILLED that I did. This printer does everything and is so easy to use and understand. It also powers up ready fast and down fast, so no need to turn it on long ahead of time so it will be ready. I just love it. Also the ink directly from Canon is as good a price as I have found anywhere and you can get it for no shipping if you order two packs. So I will order 1 all black and 1 color. Then order two color the next time and that gives me all I need and I did not have to pay any shipping.
MAC OS Snow Leopard user November 20, 2009 R. Pellicer (Orange County, CA USA) Super easy to set up. If you have the slightest bit of computer knowledge, then logging onto Canon USA's webpage and downloading the latest Snow Leopard software is a breeze. The box included software doesn't support the latest 10.6 Snow Leopard... Thankfully, Canon already figured this out... I'm running my MX860 wireless on my network. Took 5-10 minutes at the most. Ink cartridges could've been a little bigger... but we aren't heavy printers. THANKFULLY I bought through Amazon and not retail... saved at least $50! Good looking printer... modern silver/black finish... light weight. If you have any problems connecting your printer, call Canon's toll-free helpline number... that's what they get paid to do.
Prints fast - Takes a long time to get ready November 20, 2009 Philip Reuter (Vista, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It sputters, clicks, clacks, and carries on, but when it finally gets things together, the print comes out quickly. Not a problem for large print jobs, but if you have to go through this each time you do a half-page job, doing a even a few such jobs can slow you down.
The remainder of the functionality is great.
The unit was easy to set up. I had it running wireless within an hour of unpacking it, so I have not had to find out how good Canon Customer service is. I also don't know how long the ink reservoirs last.
At this point, I am pleased with my purchase of this machine.
Goes through ink fast! November 18, 2009 T. Roleff (So. California) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this printer only a couple of weeks. I bought it because my old printer was not compatible with my new computer. The Canon Pixma MX860 was a breeze to set up and I have had no problems with it. There are a couple of things I have noticed, though, that I wish I had known before I bought it.
First, the tray that holds the copy paper only holds about 100 pages. It slides out from under the tray that holds the freshly printed paper. This tray is a piece of flimsy plastic, and every time I try to slide it back in, I'm deathly afraid I'm going to break it. It never slides in straight, always just slightly off center, so I have to wiggle it around to fit right. While the rest of the copier seems well made and solid, this paper tray is a piece of junk.
Secondly, like I said, I've had this printer only a couple of weeks, and only used it really for 2 days, and already I've gotten a warning notice that one of the black ink cartridges is almost out of ink. (There are two black ink cartridges; the other one contains less ink and is used, I think, when you print in color; I always print in b&w unless there's a special reason why it should be in color.) I've only printed maybe 100-150 pages or so; not much at all. My old printer (HP deskjet) would go through reams of paper before running out of ink, so I'm very disappointed in how fast this printer is going through the ink. I typically print my own color Christmas cards/letter, and I can only imagine how much ink this printer will go through, if it empties the biggest ink cartridge after just 150 pages. Luckily, I buy refilled ink cartridges at $6/each (as opposed to $15 for Canon brand), but still, having to replace ink cartridges every week is going to get real old and very expensive real fast.
