Good Phones, features ok November 20, 2009 NYC Reviewer The phone and sound quality are great. Easy to use menus and answering machine as well. The only feature that doesn't quite live up to its billing is the "talking" caller ID. Its a good attempt at something that could be really useful but this just falls short.
1st off it takes at least 2-3 rings to begin speaking and by that time you can just look at the regular caller ID. 2nd, if the name of the person calling isn't "Smith" that little microchip just can't seem to get it event close to the right pronuncation.
Overall through its a good phone, with clear sound quality.
Panasonic Cordless Telephone/Answering Machine November 20, 2009 Doug (Ohio) A good product at a great price through Amazon. The handsets work as advertised - great sound and easy to setup and use. The only issue I have is that the answering machine does not have a display to show you the number of messages, both old and new, saved on the device. My old Radio Shack system had such a feature and I do miss it. Other than that, I highly recommend the Panasonic cordless system.
Inconvenient answering machine function November 19, 2009 Kenneth Robinson (USA) I purchased this model to replace an older Panasonic system as I had been very pleased with that system. However, this model is not nearly as good overall.
PROs: Multiple handsets. I'm using the maximum, 6 handsets. This is the primary reason I bought this system
Small foot print for the base station
Good sound quality
CONs: Power docking stations are very light and handsets are very easy to knock over.
Units feel cheap and insubstantial compared to older model
Controls are VERY poorly thought out. Doing basic answering machine tasks requires stepping through a complex menu system. The trade off of a slightly smaller foot print of the base station in exchange for fewer useful controls was a poor one. For example there is no readout telling you how many calls have been received or if a message is erased how many calls are still recorded on the machine. Otherwise this is a good phone but dealing with the answering machine is a major annoyance.
If another brand had a system available with as many handsets and a convenient answering machine I would look seriously at purchasing that and scrapping this model.
Just a great phone. Highly recommended. November 18, 2009 vizsla31 (Boston) This is a really good phone. No cons. Very happy with it and a good price.
Only 6 handsets--ouch! November 18, 2009 MacMaiden (New York) As good as this system is, it has two problems. First: why limit it to a maximum of 6 handsets? What if I need 9? Why can't I have 9? I'm willing to pay for them. So now I have a system with 6 handsets and have to buy 3 other phones which won't work on the system and can't be part of the intercom--which is a critical feature for us. This is a little like buying a 3 legged horse. It works, but certainly not as well as I'd like it to.
Second, the voice quality of the answerer is remarkably poor. In my outgoing message, I give my cell number so the caller can try that number. But the recording quality was so fuzzy that I think many callers won't be able to catch the numbers. Similarly, when I listen to the messages, I can understand them, but I can't recognize the caller's voice. I couldn't even recognize my own voice when I left a message for my husband.
Our old Uniden system was better on both of these issues. But the new system has features I want that Uniden doesn't have. First, it has call blocking so we won't receive annoying solicitations from the same source twice. It also can store up to 50 phone numbers--a big improvement over Uniden's stingy phonebook.
So it's a game of trade-offs. Which features do you really need and which headaches are you willing to put up with? If I'd known before I purchased it what I know now about the sound quality, I would have stayed with Uniden.Panasonic Dect 6.0 Titanium Black Cordless Phone with Answering Machine (KX-TG6445T)
