Samsung Touch of Color 25.5" Computer Monitor / B001AYCNIW
My fiancé and I recently decided to take the plunge and upgrade our the computers - we decided to replace the our HP and Gateway computers (both the better part of a decade old) with some blinged-out Digital Storm and Alienware computers and to buy matching sharp new monitors to go with them. After a bit of research, he ordered two of these, and all I can say is WOW.
These monitors came before our computers were ready (we were waiting for the Windows 7 release at the time) and they set right up out of the box, plugged into the old HP and Gateway machines, and that was pretty much it - totally plug-and-play. They do come with software, but we've never even bothered to load it as we haven't needed it. Similarly, when the new computers arrived, it was again just plug-and-play.
I'm blown away at how large these monitors are. Upgrading, as I am, from a monitor half this size, it feels like I've got my own personal wide screen TV sitting on my desk. I absolutely love all the space - I can easily have two internet browsers open side by side, or a browser and a Word document, or any number of other things open. Folder clutter is a thing of the past. Best of all is the effect on our computer games - I actually have 'peripheral vision' now and can see more than just my character's backside surrounded by inventory windows!
On the question of clarity, a lot is going to depend on your video card, I think. On my decade-old HP computer, this monitor gave lots of real estate and was perfect for, say, text editing, but gaming was still blocky and un-crisp. No more un-crisp than it had been with a smaller monitor, though, just more noticeable - and I still liked the bigger monitor better for the wider field of vision. With a brand new Alienware computer, though, this monitor truly SHINES - I swear that the rainbows in The Lord of the Rings: Mines of Moria are more crisp and beautiful than the ones in real life. Sometimes I just have to stop and *stare* at the scenery on my screen - it's that beautiful.
What else can I say? I thought the red glow at the bottom of the monitor would bother me, but it's *really* subtle and I never notice it anymore. I thought the stand would be kind of flimsy (especially when we accidentally assembled the first one backwards before we read the directions), but it's surprisingly sturdy as a rock - the cats haven't been able to even shake it. We're using DVI cables with these monitors, with no problems. There's a lot of nice 'custom' options - for instance, you can set the monitor to not 'cycle' for inputs but to always assume that the input will always be, for example, digital. If I had one complaint, it's that the power 'button' isn't really a button - it's just a touch-sensitive area at the bottom right-hand corner and it's sometimes hard to locate on the first try in a dark room. But if you rub your finger around, you'll find it pretty fast, so it's not a big deal.
At the end of the day, I absolutely love this monitor. We don't upgrade early OR often, so I'm really pleased that this one has turned out to be so nice. We haven't had a single monitor issue with either of the two we bought, and I expect these will last a good long time. Indeed, everyone likes our monitors so much, that my father is now looking at a Touch of Color for their house, too.

Great Features, But Some Shortcomings November 15, 2009

I bought this a while ago as as spare bedroom t.v. Overall, it is a nice tv with great features and a good picture for a great price. However, there are a couple of things you should be aware of before purchasing this unit:
(1) The vertical viewing angle is terrible. If you go from standing to sitting, or even sitting to slouching, the brightness of the screen will drastically change. It is fine if you stay in one place. But if you are planning on moving around at all when you watch t.v., you will want to pass on this one. I assume this is because it is a monitor/HDTV combo. This should be considered a deal breaker for discerning buyers.
(2) The screen is not a 16:9 aspect ratio. Again, this is due to the fact it is a monitor/HDTV combo. If you watch 16:9 on this set, you will have small black bands across the top and bottom of the screen. This is really just an annoyance and makes me frustrated that there is unused screen space. Of course, you can stretch the image vertically if you want.
(3) No wall mounting or ability to tilt display. No tilt is particularly a problem with this unit because of the atrocious vertical viewing angle.
(4) No old-style analog video-in jack. This unit does not support video input from a single yellow RCA video cable. For instance, I could not hook up my daughter's Fisher Price Smart Cycle to the television without having to go through my old VCR which I luckily still had. That was a bummer. Then again, who uses analog RCA cables anymore?
Overall, this t.v. has performed well given its design constraints. I cannot recommend it as a general use t.v. because of the vertical viewing angle problems. However, I would imagine this would be a great buy if used simultaneously as a monitor/t.v. on a desk in a small room where the viewer is not very far from the screen when watching.

I just bought this monitor online after reading good review on line. But actually this is the worse monitor or TV I ever bought. It has a fatal flaw: The dark and bright changes when you move your head.

looks good; no dead pixl's that I can tell; I may need to upgrade my video card because at the higher resolutions the picture slows down and skips; at the highest setting (with DVI) it flickers till I change the setting the go back to the highest again; I switched to the regular monitor plug and it works great.
I think this is my problem and not the tv.
I think I may buy another one as a gift.

I purchased the T260HD as a replacement for our old bedroom TV, a standard def 32" CRT from about 12 years ago... I was originally looking at Samsung's line of '09 HDTVs but given the price and the specs of this hybrid TV/Monitor, it seemed like the perfect option. It offers higher resolution than any dedicated HDTV around the same size, plus if we ever decide to upgrade to a larger bedroom TV it can move into the office to replace our old 17" LCD monitor.
I read many reviews prior to purchasing and knew that the sound and viewing angle might be a bit of an issue, but these seemed like reasonable tradeoffs considering what a great value it was otherwise.
I have to say that the T260HD has exceeded my expectations! We purchased an inexpensive set of computer speakers that we are running from the headphone jack (yes this is on the left and affects the set's profile with a cord sticking out, but you can still mostly close the door covering the jack to obscure this). Here are the speakers that we purchased:Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System (Black). Sound issue solved.
Also the viewing angle isn't nearly as bad as I had expected from some earlier reviews. Since we are using this as a television, we view from about 5-6 feet away. The horizontal viewing angle from this distance isn't bad, you have to move more than several feet in either direction before the color accuracy shifts, and even so the shift is subtle as you move further off-axis. The vertical viewing angle is much touchier - if I look at the TV while standing(we have this on a table about 3 feet off the ground), colors appear noticably washed out. If I view it while laying on the ground, the image is extremely dark. This isn't a big deal for our setup, but if you anticipate that you will be frequently looking up or down at the screen, this product might not be the best option.
When viewing the set straight-on, the color accuracy is great. I do not have a professional calibrating device, but trust my eyes and have high standards for such things as I am a professional web and graphic designer.
We have this hooked up via HDMI to our DirectTV STB (HR20-100). I changed the picture mode to movie, reduced the backlight to 3, slightly increased brightness (about 5 points) to compensate a bit for the reduced backlight, reduced the sharpness to 10, changed the color mode to warm 1, and had an image that I was quite happy with. It would be nice if this had a white balance setting to dial the color in a bit more, but honestly I don't think I would change much even if I had this available. Do keep in mind that every panel and every viewing situation is a bit different, so my settings might not work as well for you.
I also changed the sound to Music, which I find improves the audio significantly when going to my cheapo computer speakers. The standard audio setting had a shrill trebliness - I'm sure with a better sound system this wouldn't have been a factor.
So while there are some slight imperfections, these to me are minor, and are more than made up for by the features and value. I think that Samsung has a great product, and I anticipate that they will produce more combo Monitor/HDTVs in next year's line which could make this model a bit hard to come by. Of course any new product will launch with a higher MSRP than this is selling for now, so I think if you are waiting for the price to drop further you should stop waiting and just buy it!
