Product Description Sleek & Trim Kindle DX is as thin as most magazines. Just over a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle DX fits perfectly in your hands. Beautiful Large Display Kindle DX's large display is ideal for a broad range of reading material, including graphic-rich books, PDFs, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Kindle DX's display is two and a half times the size of the Kindle display. Whether you're reading the latest bestseller or a financial report, text and images are amazingly sharp on the 9.7" screen. Auto-Rotating Screen By simply turning the device, you can immediately see full-width landscape views of maps, graphs, tables and Web pages. Built-In PDF Reader Unload the loose documents from your briefcase or backpack, and put them all on Kindle DX. From neighborhood newsletters to financial statements to case studies and product manuals--you can take them all with you on Kindle DX. Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go. With Amazon's Whispernet service, you can send your documents directly to your Kindle DX and read them anytime, anywhere. 5-Way Controller Kindle DX has an easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Simple to Use, No Computer Required Kindle DX is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. Long Battery Life - Read for Days Without Recharging With Kindle DX's long battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly.

Kindle DX for visually handicapped individuals November 21, 2009 Marian F. Fischer I purchased the Kindle DX for my mother, who lost much of her vision a year ago. She had been a voracious reader until that time, but reading had become so tedious for her that she no longer read much of anything. She and I were thrilled that she was able to read books on the Kindle DX without using a magnifying glass; her glasses were sufficient. However, should her vision continue to deteriorate, she will be unable to use the Kindle DX, as the largest print it offers is the size of print in large print books. I hope that the designers take into consideration the large, elderly population, many of whom have vision problems, and decide to enable even larger print to be selected on future Kindles. (There's a huge market for it and a lot of money to be made.) Since mom can no longer drive, do her volunteer work, or go out unaccompanied, she has a lot of time on her hands. The Kindle DX has made the difference between mom sitting and stagnating, watching the idiot box (TV) and enriching her life through reading and keeping up with world events. It's a wonderful device that I would recommend to anyone.
great convenience November 20, 2009 Odysseus (Minnesota USA) I bought this for myself for my husband to give me for Christmas. Naturally I have been using it from the moment it arrived. I love it. I travel alot and like to bring books along. Now I can carry a whole library. Books are a real load when the airlines restrict the number of pounds your bag can be. I have shelves of books which take up too much room in my house. I am beginning to donate books to free up space now that I can have most of what I want on my kindle. I have downloaded many classics for free, or almost free. The newer downloads are reasonably priced. I still have to buy books, as not everything is available for download. I like ancient Chinese literature and poetry, a rather obscure taste. But I found wonderful ancient Chinese literature available for downloading. And for nearly free too. Amazing. I also like the Kindle screen, the fonts, and the easy operation. It is pricy, but not so much if you buy alot of books.
The best ereader currently available November 20, 2009 Joel Keranen (Hancock, MI) The Kindle DX is the best e-reader device currently available.
Even after the announcement of the Nook the Kindle still has the best selection of books at the best prices. Before buying a competing device check out the availability of books from your favorite authors and the prices of those books.
BIG MISTAKE November 20, 2009 R. Fera (Chicago, Illinois) Originally I bought the 6". I loved it. Did you read me? I loved it. I thought, one day I'll buy the 9" and use the 6" for travel. Anyway, I was going to the vet with a sick dog. I was loading the dog into the car and I put the 6" on the roof so that I could have my hands free. I rushed around to the driver's side got in and drove off. Presto! No more 6". Yeah, I know, DUMB. Well, I thought, I'll just buy the 9" now instead of waiting--BIG MISTAKE. That thing is heavy, ten minutes of holding the 9" and you think you're in a prison camp being forced to hold buckets of ice in your hands with your arms out stretched. It's murder. Sure it's easy to read but come on. The control keys are on one side only. The keyboard has embedded number keys (was that a great idea?) and did I mention it's heavy? OK, you get the picture. I did a dumb thing and now I have to buy the 6" again. A 9.7" is too big. Maybe an 7.75" would be OK.
Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device - as a gift November 20, 2009 "book lover" (Missouri USA) I purchased this item as a gift for my husband who is a big reader. He travels a lot. It is just like advertised, very easy to use, very easy to understand the directions. Downloads were fast. Setting up his account was simple.
