5 out of 5 stars Still Great after 11 months   November 18, 2009
Susan (Boston, MA United States)
Got this TV for our family room for Christmas 2008. Its been in high use since then (PS3 and WII games played by the kids and lots of plain old TV watching). Neither my husband nor I am particularly talented when it comes to dealing with technology issues and we had zero problem setting this up and getting it going on our own. I had been warned about "burn in" from the video games -- but its not been a problem (I did make the kids wait about a month and a half to break it in before hooking up the video games). At the time I paid just under $1000 for it and thought I had gotten a great deal. I was looking today for a smaller flat screen to buy for my mom (who covets our TV) and find that this one is available now for only $730!! What a deal!!! I might have to get another one. I should mention that I purchased it from Amazon last year (they had the best price that I could find anywhere -- even at the last minute holiday sales -- and it came with "white glove" delivery service (they would have set it up if we had wanted them to -- but since we didnt' want it set up they did lug it into the house and help us get it out of the box (they disposed of the packing for us) and safely hidden away. I can't say enough about how easily everything went.

3 out of 5 stars Good picture for the money, but worrying about burn-in is a PITA   August 21, 2009

This TV has a good picture, but it's a little dim even with the settings turned up, and there's always that fear of burn-in. I had a logo stuck in the bottom corner for a couple days and it made me wish I'd bought an LCD. It eventually went away, but now I have to keep my settings turned down and I have to constantly worry about what I'm watching. If you have the money, buy a good LCD.

5 out of 5 stars Still impressed after four months.   August 4, 2009

I got this TV to replace my old tube TV. I must say it is possibly the best money I've ever spent.

Picture:
Games look amazing as do blu-ray shows, standard def (more than half of what is viewed though it) looks great too. I do everything from play my xbox 360 on it to watch cartoons and other old DVDs, I have not once yet been disappointed. At this size 720p is almost identical in quality to 1080p so don't sweat the difference.

Settings:
Easy and straight forward, not a maze like other TVs I've used. I paid the extra money at Best Buy to have the guy calibrate it, that was also money well spend. Cartoons (like spongebob) appeared off color until he came in and adjusted it. He actually hooked up equipment that ran real diagnostics to adjust the color well.

Hookups:
This TV has a lot of hookups, I have an XBOX, Wii, blu-ray player and DVD player hooked up with room to spare.

Sound:
This is where most TVs fall short. They are not designed to have excellent sounds since the majority of their users want surround anyways. I would highly recommend getting a sound system with this TV. I initially had my eye on a 52" 1080p tv but decided against it because I wanted a sound system with it. In retrospect I made the right choice.

A few tips for buying an HDTV for the first time:
1. Don't spend it all on the TV. Take into account a surround sound system, a good surge protector (many come with insurance on whatever is plugged into them) and HDMI cables. Also get a warranty, is it worth the extra money to protect your big investment.

2. Get cheap HDMI cables. Digital cables transmit a 0 or a 1 opposed to analog which transmits much more complex signals. This means that the quality of the cord has absolutely no meaning since interference can not happen. So long as there is a connection the worst will work as well as the finest. Places like best buy will try to rip you with this be selling extremely expensive HDMI cables, buy them online in advance.

3. TVs looks smaller in the store, look online for the best inches for your viewing distance.

4. If you are using an old tube TV, THE SWITCH IS WORTH IT!

5 out of 5 stars Great HDTV   June 20, 2009

I purchased this Television in September 2008. I have been using to watch DVDs, play XBox360 games and watch television channels. I use it for about 5 hours each day and have really enjoyed every minute of the high quality picture and sound. Totally recommend it!!

If you are looking for a large television on a budget, this Plasma TV will most definitely work for you. All the rumors about the slow refresh rate are crap. I have been playing all sorts of games on this. Just use it carefully for the first 100 hours and you will enjoy every moment of it from thereon.

5 out of 5 stars Very happy.   June 20, 2009

Setup is pretty easy, of course depending on what kind of stand you buy. Picture is excellent. You do not need a 1080 set as very few programs come with that resolution. I went from a 27" magnavox standard definition set to this and I will say that if you don't have HD, you completely lose all the great performance from this set. In fact, I would rather watch standard definition on my old tv. When you go up in size like I did, it just blurs your standard definition picture. Don't even consider this tv unless you have HD.
