| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Poor book catalog November 20, 2009 Alejandro Martinez Corria (Spain) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've bought the kindle from Spain. I expected to find my favourite writers. I was very dissapointed when I saw that many of them are not available for my country. At the same time the web is not consistent and many times makes suggestions of books that you can not buy or display prices (even if you have signed on with your international account) that are not the real prices.
The device works well but without books of my interest is useless. I feel cheated by Amazon.
Love my Kindle! November 20, 2009 Felicia Lovo I received my Kindle about a month ago and I am hooked. I didn't know how I would like it since I love the feel of reading actual books, but this thing is awesome! I am usually in the middle of at least 3 books at any one time, and now I can do that with just one device rather than carry the books with me (especially if I am flying somewhere). Amazon is great also! I had noticed my Kindle had a slight defect and they sent me another one right away and I returned the original Kindle. Gotta love that kind of customer service!
International Travelers Beware November 20, 2009 PSKTigger Information that you won't find except as a note in the users guide
For an extra $60 over the US only version I have the great fortune of being eligible to pay $4.99 extra per week for my subscriptions, or $1.99 extra per book!! Nearly as awesome as the original AT&T iphone data roaming "plans"
Since this was one of the main reasons I picked the kindle, it will probably get returned for a Nook (with WiFi which is ubiquitous)
Thank you Amazon for not identifying these fees up front...

Amazon's Personal Document Service not available in Canada November 20, 2009 SelfAmusing (Calgary, AB, Canada) I live in Canada, and bought the Kindle the day it was available here. I was looking forward to being able to read my other e-books on the Kindle, but when I emailed a couple to my Kindle's email address, I got an email to my hotmail account telling me the conversion feature isn't available in Canada yet. The product page is misleading. Still giving it four stars because it's a lovely device, very easy to read.
New to Kindle November 20, 2009 Gregory J. Scougall 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great product. I recently enrolled in Air War College for the Air Force and was happy to learn that I could transfer all the readings onto my Kindle!
Only complaint is the extra fees for those people oversees. Although it's easy to avoid the charges by sending to your computer and synching that way, I don't recall detail of these charges in the advertisements.
Also, Kindle should move ahead with the experimental efforts of connecting to the internet and transferring .pdf files and make them a standard feature.
