The nüvi 770 adds maps for Europe. The nüvi 780 adds enhanced MSN direct content capability..Which nüvi is Best for You?: Click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nuvi GPS navigators Garmin's nüvis pack top of the line features into a slim form factor. | Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen | New Features -- Where Am I? Where's My Car? The nüvi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?"
At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, all nüvi 700s automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. New Features -- Multi-Destination Routing This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about). A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map. See Better, See More The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
First Rate Map Data All nüvi 700s come preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. WIth Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker, you can match your nüvi to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Integrated FM Traffic Receiver
| Steer clear of traffic with an integrated FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous â there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.
A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with purchase of this device. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website.

Easy to use November 18, 2009 Paladin (Virginia) Simple to use. Shopping, restaurant lists seem out of date even after update. Makes a few mistakes, so watch the road signs. I am impressed how accurately it displays posted speed limits.
Works well...only after a firmware update November 13, 2009 Game Fan (New York) I bought this a few months ago, so far pretty happy with it. Initially I was having problems in that the device would never load up a language file automatically so there was never any voice to the directions. After a firmware update, that was fixed, and no problems now. I think because the device uses traffic guidance it varies the route it will tell you take. This may be a good thing, but at times it may take you through an area that you don't want to go (ex, in NYC going from the BQE to the LIE, it wanted to take me through Flatbush ave in Brooklyn at 1 AM, I kept ignoring its directions). The screen is a nice size, brightness and volume are more than adequate. I ended up using the friction mount, which is a great product and secures it nicely. I always disconnect the device and lock it in the glovebox after I leave the car, so luckily it hasn't gotten stolen. Although I find doing a fresh restart on it each time, it takes about 2 minutes for it to connect to the satellite uplink and display my current position.
Garmin Nuvi 760 November 8, 2009 Richard R. Henning (Buffalo, NY USA) I previously had a Nuvi 660. My daughter started driving, so it was time for another unit. I purchased a Nuvi 765T from another outlet specifically because you were supposed to be able to make your own routes and it had the Lane Assist feature. I made the routes and the unit would keep telling me to make U-turns. I called support and they said the unit was faulty and to take it back for a replacement, which I did. The 2nd unit did the same thing. I even sent the routes to Garmin and they put them in their unit and got the same results with no solution for the problem. The Lane Assist feature did not work either. And it would not download my self made routes from Google Maps or Mapquest as advertised. What a gyp!
So I took it back and got the Nuvi 760, which is pretty much the same as the 660, but it also has programable routes. This unit also will not download map routes that you make at Google maps or Mapquest. It will download routes that you make in Mapsource from Garmin. However, when it navigates the routes, the voice prompts will be mostly incorrect. The written directions at the top of the screen will be correct, but if you have to look at the screen for every turn of your route, you'll be heading for an accident.
I've tried other units, Magellan and Tom Tom. Garmin is the better of the 3. The guidance quality is very good and if it gets you a little off the mark, you can easily correct to the proper location using the Coordinates button. Very, very handy. I only have a Tracfone (cheap cell phone). But it connects easily to the Nuvi bluetooth and works really well. I put my MP3 music on a 2 Gb card and insert it into the unit and I play my music all the time. I wish my car radio had and audio input jack, then I could play my Nuvi through my car radio by connecting the headset jack on the Nuvi to the audio input jack of the car radio, which I can do in my other car.
Pros: Very accurate directions. MP3 player works really well. Easy to see in daylight. Bluetooth for your cell phone works really well. Very user friendly in programming the unit and inputting addresses.
Cons: Speakers are only adequate. Sounds great when played through the car radio by hooking up the headset jack of the Nuvi to the audio input jack of your car radio, if you have one. The connection wire can be purchased from RadioShack for about $6. Gives mostly incorrect voice prompts for routes created in Mapsource from Garmin, however written directions at top of screen are accurate. Cannot download made up routes from Google maps or Mapquest. Tech support is low quality. They should hire people who know their job. What a shame because their tech support is actually located in this country.
I would recommend the Nuvi 660. In general, it's a very good unit and I'm pretty much satisfied with it's performance. Too bad Garmin has gone the way of Dell by charging you for features that don't really work as advertised. You should be able to get money back for features that don't work like they're supposed to. Garmin quality is going downhill.
There are better brands and models available. November 2, 2009 Blair (USA) I own a Garmin Nuvi 760. I've had nothing but problems with it since the outset. Gives directions late -- mere seconds before your turn, which is useless at best and dangerous at worst.
Poor value for the money. Plus, they make you pay for accessories that others provide for free. Example: AC charger. I would never buy a Garmin again -- ever. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
Great Nuvi - some misgivings October 26, 2009 MikeK (Silicon Valley) I had an earlier Nuvi and loved it for ease of use. This new unit is a great upgrade. I like the traffic service, although I am still thinking about paying for this once the free period expires (only works in certain metro areas).
I was disappointed to learn that pairing with bluetooth devices is next to impossible, because of the use of a non-standard fixed passcode (why not use "0000" like everything else?). If this is not a big deal to you, this is a great unit. If that is important, other models (like the super-expensive Zumo 660) may be the way to go.
