Customer Reviews: Fantastic Screen, Perfect Price July 31, 2009 JohnnyTrojan 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic screen; with the 720p Mitsubishi projector I got and this screen, I have an 8 foot, HD-native, Wii-inspiring set up that has all the guests ooing and ahing. And best of all, the entire video cost (screen + projector + mounting(x2)) is cheaper than a new HD TV would be!
I cannot emphasize enough how great of a purchase this is if you are into watching movies or the ultimate in gaming experience. I'm never going to go see a movie in a theatre again (unless it's a crazy sci-fi flick in 3-D, etc), which will pay for this screen in only one year if you go see a movie 7 times on a date... the cost/benefit analysis is through the roof. We also hook up Netflix on-demand through the computer and the video is perfectly fine for TV shows, and we even watch ESPN360 for the USC games that aren't carried on national TV.
I even cut down my costs more by mounting it to my white wall with white shelf supporters, an eye-hook, and clasp from Home Depot. Entire mounting process was only $10 and about 30 minutes. If you are handy at ALL, you will have no problem attaching this to your wall or ceiling, and the screen has a perfect ability to extend and stay. I suggest leaving it about 6 inches from the wall when you attach it, as retraction is a breeze at that distance and it still looks great while hanging on a white wall.
Quality for such a bargain!! January 23, 2009 Meredith Hamilton 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My boyfriend bought a projector and either used a white painted wall or a big canvas drop cloth for a background. I was surprised at how affordable this screen was and bought it for him for Christmas. It is huge!! The back side is black and that blocks light and shadows from shining through. The screen itself is thick and hangs straight. He is very happy with his gift this year!!
Clean mechanism, good peripheral view, nice luminence September 2, 2008 Phlogiston (West Hartford, CT USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this product because it was the screen that best fit my wall. I have a 2000 Lumen LCD projector that I use, mostly, for entertaining. I used to project on a white wall, and that worked well, but this screen increases the luminescence so that I can play a film even when there is quite a bit more ambient light in the room. It also improves viewing quality when one is watching from an angle, rather than straight-on.
It is a good product at a good price. I have had no problems with the recoiling mechanism and the entire product is quite durable. I decided not to purchase a screen with an electric recoiling mechanism, because I figured that, eventually, the mechanism would break and then the screen would be fairly useless. The standard, manual recoil is easy enough.
The only annoyance, and it is quite minor (and fairly unavoidable) is that when one uses the recoil mechanism, the metal bar at the bottom of the screen (that keeps it straight) collides with the chamber that holds the rolled-up screen and it can make a clanging noise. I found that this could be mostly fixed by putting a rubber ring around both the right and left ends of the metal bar at the bottom of the screen. It is not really necessary, but it helps. Before that, I just held onto it while it coiled, so that it would not strike the chamber too hard.
All in all, it is a wonderful product.
If you are planning on buying a screen, I recommend keeping one important factor in mind, do not think so much of whether you want to show wide-screen or full-screen format. Rather, measure the dimensions of the wall where you will be mounting the screen and buy the model that best matches the dimensions of the wall.
