Excellent Product September 1, 2008 I have used this mouse for a month and a half, and so far it's smooth sailing. I bought this mouse to mitigate the constant wrist pains I had been getting due to excessive PC gaming. The pain is completely gone, and I can still compete against traditional mouse users in online gaming (I regularly get the highest score on TF2 with this mouse). It took about a week to get used to, but I am now as adroit at using this input device as I was on my traditional optical mouse.
Some thoughts about the Logitech Optical Marble Mouse: -When I first used this mouse, the ball didn't roll smoothly. However, after a few hours of use, this cause of concern disappeared. -Cleaning is simple and necessary, as the rolling action becomes very stuffy after a couple days. I pop the ball out and rub my fingers against the three contact points, on which the ball glides over, to remove debris. I then polish the ball itself with my shirt and pop it back in; less than 30 seconds of cleaning. -There is no scroll wheel. It was perturbing at first, but I have gotten used to it. I click one of the side buttons and the software scrolling comes up; move the cursor up to scroll up and vice versa. -I set the scroll button to open and close tabs in the Firefox browser as I had done this with my previous mouse. For some reason it requires a double click now instead of a single click. -It saves a lot of space on my desk.
I urge users who have wrist pain to buy this type of product to prevent any future carpal tunnel complications. Others who do not have wrist pain would be prudent to buy one too as they may have symptoms later.
My only complaint is the lack of a scroll wheel; the middle right button could have been replaced with one. At this price point, however, this is a moot point.
This product has my endorsement.
Great mouse, poor to bad drivers August 29, 2008 I've had this for mouse for almost two years. Love the fact that I could program the buttons for what I needed. During that time I've had it, I would have to reinstall the logic center software and drivers. sometimes I would get full function back most of the time I wouldn't. Logitech makes great products, but when it comes to support and available information they really SUCK!
great for limited workspace August 26, 2008 This is the third of this "marble" mouse that I've purchased. I have all three on a desk with three PCs and five monitors. These roller-mice make-do with limited desk space---not enough room to slide around normal mice. I like the smooth tactile feel.
Wish I'd gotten the thumb-ball one again August 23, 2008 I don't know what I was thinking... My previous mouse was the Logitech Optical Marble thumb mouse kind. It worked great up until it died (many years later). I saw this one and thought I'd give my hands a little change up or something, but I must have a stupid pointer finger that got used to using the rollie-scrollie wheel from the thumb trackball because I just cannot get used to this one (and I'm starting to hate it with a passion).
I use it on my Mac, and the only handy thing I've found--completely by accident--is that one of the buttons (the left tiny sliver one) works like the F9 key, reducing and showing all the windows on my desktop. I miss the scrollie wheel, I continually accidentally click the right buttons in some right-clicking fashion, stop, unclick, roll pointer back to what I was really doing, curse the mouse, go do something else. I'm sure I could program them all to do something else more useful, but the other one was SOOOOO easy and comfortable just like it was. I also find that I must have some ridiculously heavy thumb since I am always clicking on something that I don't want to select. I'm not sure why the track ball is much bigger on this one versus the thumb one--feels like my pointer finger is pushed up too high, waving around in space.
I've really given this a good try now and, I think I'm going to order the thumb version (and find someone who wants this one). I just don't like the way my hand "drapes" on this version--it's not comfortable, not as intuitive, and much harder to use.
Not fully Mac compatible August 19, 2008 THE UP AND DOWN SCROLL BUTTONS DO NOT WORK WITH MY MAC (OS 10.5), and since the driver CD-ROM is FOR WINDOWS ONLY, I can't do anything about it. With this thing I have to mouse over to the scroll bar and click + drag up and down, which is a stupid hassle. If I'd known that I wouldn't have bought it. (It's too inexpensive to return.) To say that it's Mac compatible is false advertising. On the up side, if I had a PC, I'd probably be satisfied.
