Terrible product August 14, 2008 I bought this laptop and loved it the first several times I used it. BUT, after I started using it on a regular basis the overheating started happening every few hours and the computer would just shut down. This had nothing to do with the air vents being blocked - they weren't. I couldn't keep the laptop running on a regular basis and finally the motherboard fried. The computer is just dead. The AC adaptor also got extremely hot - to the point where you couldn't handle it. I am so disappointed and upset, and after seeing all the same type reviews concerning this laptop, I will not consider buying a Toshiba product in the future. I truly wasted my money and learned a lesson the hard way. Never again.
DO NOT BUY!!!! THIS LAPTOP IS A LEMON October 12, 2007 Read the reviews of those who have had this laptop for almost a year and they will all agree that this laptop just overheats, freezes, and stops working for no reason. I have had this laptop for a little over 2 1/2 years now and it has been at Toshiba's repair center 6 times!!! The motherboard has been changed 4 times. When the computer is working it does work great, but the problem is that it is completely unreliable. Overall, don't buy it!!
problematic November 2, 2006 Have owned for 18 months - needed the motherboard replaced twice within last six months. Never had another unit to compare with, but the extended warranty saved me $500 twice. The first time, the battery charge icon was lit even though the adapter was in place; I assumed there was an issue with the jack. The authorized repair center claimed it was the motherboard. A few weeks ago, one of the speakers quit emitting sound - I figured it was the speaker itself. Nope, the same authorized repair center claimed it needed another motherboard. Those two repairs equalled the original cost. I'd be very skeptical about another Toshiba laptop after the extended warranty expires.
Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 Is Not Recommended July 19, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't recommend this laptop because since I got this laptop on 01/26/2005, I've had several problems:
The worst problem was the static problem, which caused the laptop to freeze. This is a known problem. A Toshiba-authorized repair company had to replace the top cover for free within the 1-year warranty, which fixed the problem.
The wireless connection was weak, even when the laptop was close to the wireless router. The authorized repair company replaced the wireless mini PCI card within the 1-year warranty, which fixed the problem.
The sound doesn't work every time I boot it. Sometimes when booting there's sound, and other times there's no sound. The workaround is to reboot and see if I get sound. The repair company claimed it couldn't reproduce the problem because it was intermittent. I still have the problem.
I brought it to Best Buy for repair the first time because that's where I got the extended warranty from, and a rubber foot was missing when I got the laptop back after they shipped it out and shipped it back. Best Buy couldn't repair anything. I had to have the authorized repair company replace the rubber foot. I don't know if the rubber foot's coming off was because of a manufacturing defect or Best Buy's being careless.
The latest problem is that the laptop shuts down automatically due to overheating. I'm waiting to see if Toshiba will make an exception to have this fixed because the warranty expired almost six months ago. I know it's heat related because when I brought it out to my air-conditioned car, it finally booted all the way up. Before, it would shut down before finishing the boot process. It also happens when running multiple programs at once like virus and spyware scanning, which cause the CPU to heat up. The laptop is on a glass surface with nothing obstructing the bottom. I'm not running air conditioning, so I think this is due to the summer heat.
If the laptop is working properly, has a lot of features that make it a good experience. It features a TruBrite wide screen, which is brighter than a regular TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screen. Once you have the TruBrite screen, you don't want to go back to the regular screen because it makes everything look good. It performed well for what I use it for, which is work-related applications. I don't use graphics programs on it. It also has good structural integrity, which means the plastic hasn't cracked. That happened on my Transmonde laptop.
Worst Computer Ever- Not even worth 1 star April 26, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Do not buy this computer. It works fine for as long as your warranty is up, but then it stops working all together. I know several other people with the same computer and the same problems. Toshiba is worthless and will not help you past the warranty despite an obvious flaw in their product.
The computer is a complete waste of money and time.
